I look forward to seeing it in person. Seems like it will feel pleasantly themed, in the way that a big chain hotel would design their location that happens to be in a luxury tropical area - not uniquely/immersively themed like Disney used to be capable of. Call me sappy but I like a little of those happy, almost whimsical Disney touches the original poly has (and even top tier properties like Four Seasons and Waldorf do not). The gardens look like a cool ad-on, but those views can be seen from a million other places - so feels like something one would use pretty infrequently after the first time, especially if crowded.

As for location, this is going to sound dumb… but the funny thing is when you are inside the ugly structure already, you are looking at the Poly that you actually like. So the views are actually surprisingly pleasing. 😂
Ah, yes, the Tour Montparnasse effect! It’s the only modernist skyscraper in central Paris, a tall modernist building that’s completely out of place with its historic midrise neoclassical neighbors. It’s often said to have the best views in the city, because it’s the only place with skyline views where you can’t see…Tour Montparnasse.

The original Polynesian waterfall pool was beautiful...and the structure was not some hulking monolith like the main Poly pool has now... They could have created some beautiful exotic looking water features and additions without it blocking views, but adding to the view...

I remember the Poly in 1972 the pool and lobby were awesome then they down graded the lobby IMO it's been a slow slide down hill ever since

Disney has shared a few photos from the Island Tower:

The days of the large beautiful lobbies (I.e grand Flo, wilderness, AKL) are over unfortunately. However with the videos I’m seeing of this lobby coming out today across social media, this is a huge upgrade compared to riviera. This looks beautiful. The “lack of theming” and “doesn’t feel like Disney “ people still won’t like it. But I think this is a beautiful space to welcome you into the resort! Pool looks almost worse than expected with new photos coming out…yikes. And take back my last take on the pool, it is far off to the side that they could have done more it appears.

THIS. Simple, effective and evocative. I loved that pool feature.

Might get blasted for this, and obviously haven't seen it in person, but thinking the Island Tower is looking really nice and with a good amount of theming - not too in your face but also not just a generic hotel that could be anywhere. Murals and carvings and obviously the view add to it. Agree with others the pol area could definitely be plussed a bit

This pattern here is very snake to me than Poly, except the one Stat flower. Each box will be different.
agree - that picture is a bit serpent-y - but the darker tone of the image and the richer woods seem less 'modern hotel vibe' vs the lobby colors they used. I much prefer the darker b/c it evokes the classic lobby (but maybe I'm just a sucker for that).

I think we would like this resort if it had some. colors touches from the old resort along with too whatever modern touch they wanted. I find the beige less horrible with the lobby than vs with the rooms. Beige isn't a bad color but for a vacation and it completely is too much. If they think those tones are meditating and restful I don't know about that.

Definitely not a disaster on the inside IMO. Although I like the size/height of the lobby, it may be my least favorite part of the interior. I wish they went with more of the darker tones they seemed to have used in the viewing gardens -

I suspect the viewing gardens are going to be extremely popular. Wouldn't want a room anywhere near them though.

Unpopular opinion in this territory but this resort is beautiful. We are staying here early next year and the more I see the more gorgeous it is. The seafood restaurant and lobby have so many more subtle colors that keep it from being too washed out.

I know the diehards hate the new direction the resorts area headed but we own Riviera and will most likely be buying in here at some point. Stunning!
