New Park Maps?

Someone already mentioned how the backlot's closure was a very last minute choice. It's very strange that the hat has been on everything in promotional material and maps and is suddenly not included.
I haven't been able to head down to WDW or get much merch this year, but I actually remember a lot of people saying that the hat has surprisingly not been in much promotional material.

I wonder if they have these brochures at AAA stores, they often have large Disney park brochures that look like this, but no telling if they're these. I was just at WDW but didn't pick any of these up, didn't even see these in fact. The regular park specific maps don't show these alterations though, at least not Magic Kingdom (didn't visit DHS this time)...

A lot of promo material and merchandise seems to be using less of the hat though regardless. Sounds like some people in the company have wanted it gone for a while now.

Well this does seem to be newer. I dunno what to tell you guys anymore. This is on the map that they themselves are showing whether you want to believe something the company themselves is giving away or not I guess rests with you.

I'm not saying these are fake, i'm just saying that the park specific maps don't show these changes (they're completely different designs in fact). It's an interesting situation if these are real. This is a different brochure from the normal park maps, ones that show all the parks. Again they remind me of the large thick ones they have at the AAA stores.

The new individual park maps I believe are more accurate to the geography than the older ones (as if you were viewing them from google maps, they show more of the show buildings). The ones you posted look more like the older ones though. It's quite interesting, and i'm curious to learn more about this unusual situation.

This is what the Magic Kingdom map I picked up two days ago looks like (not mine specifically but i'm not scanning a new one when I don't think there's any differences)-

For the DHS map, The american idol sign is still posted. the "eyes" of mickey are missing and other planters are missing in the area, also Back-lot tour still showing.

MK map, Tangled restrooms do appear.

Could these maps be update every year or so?

Very interesting........... The hub more so than the hat. Why was it included way before completion? I'll believe a connection to the hat when we actually have concrete info that it's finally being removed.

Remember that these are the OLD maps that are no longer used in the parks, but are still used in the brochures all around the area (usually found in the hotels outside the Disney property). They are absolutely legit, but I can't believe they would leave out the hat just for artistic purposes. I think we are getting close to the removal of that thing. All of this being said, we could have to wait quite a while, as the "new" hub will open later next year, so the same could happen in regards to the hat. But why on earth are they not removing the Backlot Tour?

It's also perhaps plausible that this is just a mishmash of mistakes on whoever was arranging and splicing together pieces of the scenery on these maps. Before they started using the more geographically accurate 2014 maps introduced this year (like the one I posted above), they had been recycling the same map template for decades, just altering individual parts of the map as necessary as changes are made to the parks. Perhaps the person splicing together the new maps accidentally added in the new MK hub design before it was ready to be released. And maybe they accidentally spliced together some new and old segments of the DHS map. This is more possible if the person piecing these together wasn't super familiar with the parks. I suppose it's not impossible...

The Backlot Tour was also reportedly left on the individual Studios park maps, suggesting it might have been a last minute decision to shutter the attraction.

That's true, you are right. This also explains why the latest in-park Hollywood Studios maps also still include the attraction. The Tangled restrooms, on the other hand...

Also, remember that the maps found at the hotels outside property are NOT updated as frequently as the in-park maps, and therefore many times include details that are only added later to the regular park maps. It is something they have been doing for years now (I remember seeing the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train added there months before the attraction's opening).

Exactly. These maps are done much further in advance and without the same frequency of change. So, they will both be "leading" and "lagging" over their lifetime. So, things announced but not yet complete show up (hub) and those going/gone that were not known remain (Idol / BLT). The hat may or may not mean anything (not being there).

It seems very odd that they would leave the hat out of the DVD set...after all the marketing for the hat...seems VERY ODD that this would make it out! (cross fingers)
