News New Park Entrance coming to Epcot

It's like there's three teams. One that wants to bring the old back as new but fresh, one that wants to change just because they have the money to burn but not actually improve anything, and another that has a lot of paint and kind of dumps it all over the place.

Until there's pictures from @wdwmagic ...

Restoring the original entrance was the easy part; it’s not as if Zach’s team designed any of this themselves. The spine and such will be the truly new parts of Epcot.

I imagine like the old pylons, there's backups on standby for if (or when?) these crack? Or do we assume they figured it out to make that a non-issue?

I wonder if they’re the same size to the original. It’s been what, 21 years? They seem smaller in front of SE, but that could be due to photos.

I'm not sure how old you are but is it also possible that you last saw them when you were a child so they seem larger?

They look a lot more glassy and reflective than the originals do in photos. Granted I never saw them in person so I could absolutely be wrong, but is the new fountain perhaps not made of lucite?

That could be due to their "newness". Polycarbonate weathers pretty easily.

Compare a set of headlights on a brand new car vs one just a few years old and you will see a notable difference.

The RETROWDW Podcast did a show with the guy who made the originals. I believe he states that they were shiny when new but of course wore down after being exposed to the elements over time.

One would hope this is a good sign of things to come, but like others mentioned it feels like there are one too many teams involved and none of them are in correlation together; some understand the original, some want to ditch anything epcot for only disneysprings 2.0, others are clueless and just throw left over paint around, like in Tomorrowland. I hope maybe they see some of these positive comments and get on board together, i dont know.

I wonder if waxing them with a high-quality wax would offer some protection the same way it does on a car...
