there is an article in a magazine somewhere that described a new disney park called Disney's America. they just talked about what it would be like. Like American Adventure in Epcot only the whole park basically. there was only concept art in it and sadly i dont hav any to post. if anyone finds anything about it please post it

interesting, but I would be much cooler if they spent that money on the Hall of Presidents and putting in a ride at the American pavillion. I'd love to see something like soarin but a time travelling adventure through great moments in American History.

We already have "time travelling adventures." One of world history...SSE...and two of American history, Hall of Presidents and the American Adventure. Anything else would be kind of redundant....

I think it's a good idea to contain Disney parks in the US to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Any more and it will start to become like Six Flags...too many to maintain so the overall quality of the park drops...and some get more attention than the others do. So unless Disney is planning a new park in the future for WDW or DL in the US, I'm dead against it.

to Ausdaddy, thanks for those links. its sad to think that the idea didnt go through. i was looking foward to a new park

The next state side park will probably be in California, but first they have their plan to completely redo California Adventure. We're probably looking at 10 years down the road for the earliest we'll see a new park. The trend now seems to be towards improving the existing parks which most would agree is a must.

As for a park in New England, I don't see Disney opening what would amount to a seasonal park in the United States.

If as you say, "One more should be built in New England", What's next? One in the Central Plains? One in the Mid South? One in the North? Where would it end? I think Walt got it right, one on the West Coast & one on the East Coast. I myself have to travel from Louisiana. Besides, I feel like the trip there only serves to heighten the anticipation & make the trip more worthwhile.

Build another park in the Midwest or New England so it can be open for 6 months out of the year? I just don't think crowds would be there to justify keeping a park open with 2' of snow on the ground. Talk about dangerous windchill factors - imagine BTMRR or Splash Mountain in 10 degree weather...

Yea I don't think a Disney park in the New England area would make much sense. The outdoor rides probably won't work in the snow  .

wow it's been a good 6 or more years since this idea was thrown out the window. but i would expect to see aspects of it pop up in other places. for example the attraction that was originaly planned to take the place of pirates in florida a lot of it's concepts were adapted to the hell scene in Phantom manor.

Hmmm.... so 1993!

One of Eisners pet projects that never made it.

Many of us in the area wanted the park to be built, however the farmers won the battle. Now they have built shopping centers and malls on the same bit of land... go figure.

I remember this project. It was announced when I started college, and I was not aware of its cancellation until many years later, when I found myself wondering what ever happened to that Disney project they were supposed to build closeby. (Obviously, my Disney park mania was in hibernation during that time).

I have mixed feelings about the whole affair. On the one hand, I would have loved to have a Disney park within a couple hours drive. On the other hand, I would have a sense of dilution of the magic by having yet another Disney resort in the US. I don't totally buy the whole "hallowed ground" argument the opponents pushed. Much of the land has ironically been developed since then -- in fact, my in-laws lived for a time on land Disney sold when the project died.

Agreed, my friends that live in the area tell me the area proposed by Disney is well away from the battle fields and is now over developed, congested and just a bunch of highly congested highways, new housing developments, shopping malls and a like. They even go so far to say, the area would have been much better off with the Disney America park.

I think as long as Disney would have not tried to turn this into a Mega-resort like WDW, and stayed away from some of the traditional Disney attractions this park would have been a nice complement to the other US parks both from the experience and geographical perspectives. I agree that another Disneyland in the US is not needed. This along with a Disney developed Ski Resort Destination (which was originally attempted by Walt Disney himself but never constructed) would complete a nice balanced portfolio of Disney resorts and experiences.

Last year I went to a community board meeting in Red Hook, Brooklyn where we have a lot of unused space on the coast. They said they were presented with the idea to build a Disney waterpark with city views right in this space. I remember the collective thoughts of everyone was "ooh!" and then "ohhhh" when we realized it would be open for, say, three months out of the year.

Never heard about it again, but Ikea bought that land anyway.
I'm still holding out hope for a Disney City-Center type park in Staten Island. There's so much land there it's ridiculous. Now, if I could just lay ground plans on someone importans desk :king:
