While I don't wish to argue subjective values, I am surprised to see WOC seen as more impressive than Bellagio. Just in scope and grandeur alone, I'd have to give the Bellagio fountains points for impressiveness over anything at a theme park.
Although full disclosure- I haven't seen WOC in person. But experience reminds me of all I've heard about how great Fantasmic was, and that was one and done for me.

Fantasmic IS great and is a must see....but ONLY the version being shown at Disneyland in sunny California.
The version of Fantasmic being shown at Walt Disney World is indeed a one-and-done experience, i agree.

The two versions of the Show are stark contrasts, with DLs version totally blowing away WDWs version hands down.
If you have not seen DLs version, i highly recommend it IN PERSON , as video does NOT do the Show effects or giant full-bodied Maleficent dragon justice at all.

DCA*s World of Color gets rave reviews, and i also recommend seeing it in person.
Again, video does not in any way capture the true sense of scope or the intense color hues used during the Show.
Although i personally am not a huge fan of Shows based on a heavy reliance on video projections, the interesting effects done with lights and water are indeed neat to see in person.
The full effect is felt when you view right next to the waters edge...or where you can clearly see the full lagoons surface.

There you go...two good excuses to visit Disneyland !
:)

Sadly I won't be seeing World of Color during my trip. I will see Fantasmic though.

Getting off topic here form the thread, but if you have the choice, I'd reverse that. I disagree with Figments Friend and did not find DL's Fantasmic to be that much different/superior to Orlando's. On the other hand, I absolutely loved WoC.

No choice. WoC is being upgraded for the 60th and won't be running.

I totally understand those who are just not fans of Fantasmic though, as i am one of you.
I was never a big fan of the Show, however, DLs version i enjoyed far more then WDWs version.
Still not keen on watching a good chunk of the show presented as video projections on sprays of water ( yawn ) but the setting and use of existing watercraft is nice.
Maleficent as a dragon is the biggest plus. Very well done and very impressive in person.
I watch DLs version primarily just to see the dragon in action .

I would say what gives DLs version of the Show the edge would be these differences -

The more intimate setting in New Orleans Sq in the Park, not in a *stadium* setting.
Use of the Mark Twain riverboat and the Columbia sailing ship for two highlights.
The awesome full-bodied life-sized Maleficent dragon animatronic.

If you don*t like WDWs Fantasmic i recommend giving DLs version a try.
I did, and was surprised at how much more i enjoyed it.

Apologies for getting off topic.
Let me get things back ON topic now.....

DAKs forthcoming *Rivers of Light*.
Budget cuts done to the Show
Seems it is heading in the direction of just being yet another *projection show on water* but on a much smaller scale then some may have been expecting ( or hoping for ).
I do hope it will incorporate more then just that....video images projected onto sprays of water.
The time has come for something *different*, and my hope is some unique elements rear their heads.

Given the imagery and description provided by Disney, it seems that it won't be just projections... they mention barges and live music.

Honestly? It sounds like a Tokyo DisneySEA lagoon show. :)

According to what was posted earlier the budget was "mutilated" and that stuff may have been cut. Not saying I believe it, just what someone else posted.

WOC is a roughly 30 minute show. The Bellagio Fountains go for one song (about 5 minutes) but run every half hour and every 15 minutes at night. Not really meant to be a true show, but a small diversion and of course something to draw people into the casino. When they are running it every 15 minutes I've stayed for 2 or 3 "shows" in a row since the songs change and sometimes in Vegas you just need somewhere to chill out that isn't coating you money. The height of the fountains is really impressive and the pure number of nozzles, plus the backdrop of the tower itself. If they wanted to make the Bellagio fountains into a 30 minute show and added a little more of a story or theme it would be every bit as impressive as WOC.

Maybe debunked after the budget cuts happened, but no I have no doubt that the imagineers originally planned Rivers of Light to be on World of Color's level as a nighttime spectacular. Whylightbulb stated that the project was originally going to be similar in quality and scale to World of Color as well before the budget was mutilated. The concept art released also looks very similar to the concept art for WoC.

That concept art makes me think of some kind of Fantasmic / World of Colour hybrid. The performers on the centre section and barges are very Fantasmic style, but the larger scale water projections are more like WoC. If you walk around the Rivers of America at Disneyland during the daytime I would never expect it to be able to host Fantasmic at night, so sometimes spaces can be deceiving. If they can do F! at DL then they can do RoL at AK.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Because it is a day ending in "y".;)

Budget cuts for projects of this scope are par for the course and nothing at all uncommon.

News to me. Give me an example of budget cuts on a project during it's conception to delivery. Most attractions go over budget, because they're more than just business decisions for people involved, it's art - eg, movies, etc
