New Muppet Movie sounds like a remake of The Country Bears.

JASON SEGEL AND THE MUPPETS PUT ON A SHOW

muppets.jpg
When it was announced that Jason Segel and Nick Stoller - the writer/star and director, respectively, of the R-rated comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall - would be writing and directing the next Muppet movie, a lot of people wondered what the heck kind of a movie it would be. Would these two, members of the Judd Apatow company, be making some sort of post-modern or winking take on the Muppets? Would they be doing something edgy? From what I was able to gather at the Hawaii junket for Sarah Marshall, not at all.

Apparently their Muppet film is going to be incredibly old fashioned, with the familiar Muppet characters putting on a show to save an old theater (the theater from The Muppet Show?). The danger? An evil character wants to tear the place down to get at the oil underneath. It's sort of current!

Stoller and Segel don't know what film is next for them, whether it be romantic comedy The Five Year Engagement or this Muppet film, but considering that Segel is an avowed nut for Muppets, I think it's possible we'll see this sooner rather than later.

I read an article in which they interviewed Jason. He mentioned that he wasn't really a fan of the newer Muppet Movies and how they have turned into movies about puppets. He appreciated the older Muppet Movies (Muppets Take Manhattan; The Great Muppet Caper) because they were movies that just happened to be starring muppets. They still had plots and a storyline. Jason seemed to have a great passion for the project, although he did mention that it would be a couple of years before anything is done, as he is currently occupied. I think that it would be great. I, personally, loved the older movies. Not so much of a fan of the more recent ones, but that's just me. I am excited to see how the project goes:D

I hope this movie isn't childish or stupid like some of the past Muppet Movies have been. The older movies are great because like someone above said, they were regular movies starring Muppets. Not some dumb, fairytale setting that caters to 3 year olds. The Muppets have always had a bit of edginess that has surprisingly been absent in recent years. If you don't agree go watch some old footage of Muppets and you'll see what I mean. The Muppets need to be made the same way a Pixar movie is made....animated yet for everyone (especially appealing to adults as much as kids ie Incredibles) and not like Chicken Little (stupid and mainly for little kids leaving the adults wondering what the hell they are watching).

Knowing the Apatow crowd, I think we will all be very pleased with this, heck if we, the nuts reach out to them and tell them about those long abandoned park plans, they can put pressure on Disney to have it debut with the movie, synergy makes the world go round you know, (but this time it's good for us!)

So somebody get some address!

this sounds like the muppets christmas movie that was on nbc, but instead of tearing down the theater to get oil, they were gonna turn it into a nightclub.

The "throw away" Dawson's Creek shout out wondering where Dawson was in Muppets From Space killed the franchise for almost a decade now. I really didn't get much of that movie at all except the bear and Tambor. They were funny.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Yes the plot is old and rehashed, but Apatow+The Muppets...? Probably the best combination since chocolate and milk!

The muppets were at the best when they made Muppet Treasure Island and A Muppet Christmas Carol... they both had great traditional stories and amazing music and of course the muppets!!!
