if i remember correctly Tokyo monorail is run by the city and not from the company that runs disney. but their monorail is using the same automation as what they do on their normal lines i believe. I didnt ride the monorail there when i was there in 2017 but i saw it, not that impressive.

plus you had to pay for it
I want to say their system is NOT automatic. The Disney one, yes, but the regular system has drivers.

Sadly it isn't photoshopped, but I'm not sure why they didn't just replace the whole thing. Do we know the train color?
Didn't someone do the same thing on Red last summer? Cut out a patch?

Yes, agreed! Please no more wraps, TDO.

I happen to like some of the wraps. The Avengers wrap in particular was nice (if a bit busy) in my opinion.

I've also been a fan of the Metallic blues and reds on the monorails and would love to see fully wrapped monorails in tasteful (no IP's) yet more vibrant color schemes.

It's far more impressive. It's fast, it holds way more people, doesn't routinely breakdown and it doesn't smell. It costs about 2 bucks to ride around but you can get an even cheap 2 or 3 day pass. Let's just say that the monorail should be free at WDW who is charging over $115 bucks to walk through the gate. Tokyo Disney tickets are about $65 bucks for a better product. Yep I'll gladly pay that $2 bucks.

It's also not umpty years past it's service life, and in Florida.

I've heard conflicting stories.. that bombardier said they wouldn't make new ones and nobody else could, to scrimping at the bean counters.. likely a mix of the two is reality, as to why WDW has gone so long without a refresh, but those trains are tired, and there's only so much you can do about smell when the passengers don't much care about their own fetid miasma.

Yes, due to local laws, any train/monorail that has more than one stop must charge for service, hence why the railroad in TDL only has one stop.

There are several levels of automation from no staff to having a staff member to open doors, act as an override etc. Several lines on the London tube are automated and the trains drive themselves (some using a variation of the new WDW signaling) but they all have a driver onboard for safety as they run in deep tunnels with no walkways next to the trains. In Tokyo the yurikamome line is fully automated with no staff but that runs on the surface along an elevated track like the monorail but with regular rail

Judging by the "Sports" bleed-through, this looks like an actual newspaper/newsletter. Please identify this publication so we can give proper credit to the source of the headline "There Here!"
Haha, yeah I noticed that too. This is Cycle Times Vol. 3 No. 1 from March of '91. Cycle Times was a monorail department newsletter written by monorail cast members for monorail cast members. By this point I think they had started possibly using some sort of word processing program or something, but I'm not sure. Many of these especially the older ones were put together on typewriters and made use of photos and hand drawn cartoons all assembled manually and copied. It was a somewhat tedious process and all done on a volunteer basis, so I give them a little slack on the occasional grammar mistake. In any case here's the full issue in all it's glory:

Cool link, thanks.

The portion about "Training in Guest Courtesy" should be taped to the DIS executive washroom mirror. And every CM bathroom mirror. And honestly, probably all the Guest bathroom mirrors as well. ;)

Yeah! Reading these old newsletters really gives you an appreciation for the way things used to be. They weren't afraid to be fun and lighthearted, yet they took the job very seriously and genuinely cared. They tried to bring this newsletter back several years ago and it had a totally corporate feel and just pushed whatever agenda the company was pushing at the time. Of course little cartoons like the guy in the trough wouldn't fly at all nowadays.

I quite liked the Zootopia wrap. It made the most sense out of any of them really.

This is fantastic!

If you could share any others you have, that would be really awesome.

I love the inside view of day to day monorail operations.

Yeah, kind of says something to the state we're in right now. I'm sure if you could go back in time and tell everyone that in 30 years the Mark VI trains would still be around no one would believe you.

Yeah, I just have too much stuff. One day I need to figure out a way to put it all in one place nice and organized so it can be accessible to all.

Here, here! I would love to read more of these. I find these things, save them to my Instapaper for offline reading, and then read it when I'm without an Internet connection.

"Training In Guest Courtesy: h. Our best marketing tool is a happy guest who goes back to Anywhere, USA, and tells their neighbors what a good time and experience they had."

This is a sentiment of Walt's raised by Marty Sklar multiple times in his autobiography.

Wonder how much this method is valued (if at all) by Disney execs today today. Ever since Disney became overwrought with MBA execs, not home-grown members of the House of Mouse, I fear some of these more untraditional (but effective) approaches have been taken from consideration.
