New Mickey and Minnie heads - how we feeling?

I remember going to Florida as a kid in the 90s and so many postcards still used the old heads from the 80s. I always thought they looked so weird.
Exactly. This is why I don't think promotional material is an issue because it never has bee and probably never will be.

To really add more confusion, one old Disney On Ice commercial used the 1978-1989 Mickey head while Minnie had her then new head.

Right, which was why I said that seems like a hard sell. They've never had an issue mixing the old with the new in the past but I'm all out of ideas on what could be taking so long for WDW to get these heads. I know the biggest issue is probably getting all the heads made as I'm sure there are probably at least 30 of them throughout the property (and I feel like that's a low estimate) but I feel there's been ample time now to get them especially since MRFF has been using them since its premiered.

I think I'm just getting antsy to see these new ones up close. They premiered just a few months after we visited DLR and I've seen them in MRFF but obviously that's not an up close experience. Fingers crossed that they get them rolling out here in the next couple of months. I'm also hoping for an enhanced Magician Mickey experience.

100% agree with you here. It's been an unreasonably long time so whatever you theorize will sound somewhat flawed. A theory that I have is that it largely hinges on the programming of the talking Mickey heads. Unlike Anaheim, Paris, and Hong Kong that just use the articulated heads for shows, WDW's primary Mickey meet and greet is based around full on conversations between him and the guests and therefore requires more trial and error. Again, you could say that they had enough time to do this, but it's the closest I can get to anything of substance.

At this point, I think I'd take anything that sounded reasonable to justify it in my mind and keep me from going crazy lol

Hopefully they might make Magician Mickey more interactive with the new head since the "test mode" for the Talking Mickey head that debuted at Disneyland in 2010 and later at D23 2011 was alot more interactive. Without ruining the magic I will say that I noticed that the current Talking Mickey is alot more limited in vocabulary compared to the test version.

Didn't the Talking Mickey head debut at Disneyland first?

It did debut at DLR but to my knowledge hasn't been used since then. It was just being tested there but they currently have no version of the articulated Mickey except for in Mickey and the Magical Map (which still uses the old Mickey look due to the prerecorded sections).

If you know the magic behind talking Mickey, you know why he won't be more interactive like he was during the test phase.
Lets just say Bret Iwan can't be at Magic Kingdom seven days a week holding three different conversations simultaneously.

He was tested in Disneyland first, but only talks daily at Magic Kingdom.

Talking Mickey (new head) is in use at DCA as well for the Newsboys show.

Very cool videos. I'd say the final version is somewhere in between Disneyland 2010 (the most intereractive) and D23 2011 (the least interactive). I would love to see improvement, but as @RAXIP explained, that's highly unlikely given how the initial Disneyland testing was accomplished.

From Twitter. Apparently it's only on Main Street for the moment.
