New MARVEL attractions to Disney Parks

The success of the Avengers has, and I hate to say it, caught Disney with their pants down.

What we are looking at is a possible 1.5 billion dollar movie they are now developing into a franchise, which has to force Disney into playing hardball with getting Marvel characters into Disney World. I feel, and still do Disney would accomplish this, but now they are forced to, contract or not.

Disney World is the crown jewel of all Disney theme parks and I would fearlessly guess it makes more money than all the other Disney Parks combined, now Disney is forced to get Marvel there.

Jimmy Thick-If they do, Disney will kill it, Iam totally confident.

And just how are they going to play hardball? They make one move and Comcast will slap an injunction on them. They cannot do anything without negotiating, and negotiation requires two parties at the table. If anyone has the ability to play hardball, it's Comcast.

Know what would be funny?

If Universal decided to build an Avengers ride at IoA.
:ROFLOL:

LOL - They could too.

It's an interesting idea from a legal perspective. I'd love to watch it play out. Certainly, UOR has the right, but almost as certain, Disney/Marvel has to approve of any new attraction. Now, if Universal designs a great attraction and Disney/Marvel blocks it, Universal could take them to court (or arbitration?) alleging bad faith.

By hardball I mean they are forced to take one for the team now. In a perfect world they would have gotten the rights by now, they wavered and its going to cost them unless Disney's lawyers can work magic beyond pixie dust.

I have faith in Dsiney's lawyers, but if it comes to dollars, its going to cost a fortune, and Disney painted themselves into this corner, people are going to want Marvel at the parks now.

Jimmy Thick-Sad but true.

And it still wasn't after a billion dollar franchise was released that appeals to boys?

Jimmy Thick-I suppose people don't understand a financial bottom line...

The financial bottom line (as you pointed out) is that Disney would have to pay through the nose to get the rights from Universal. Which would be a terrible move considering they already own properties that appeal to boys (and girls) that they can use for free.

Stop thinking as though the entire business resolves around theme parks in general and Walt Disney World in particular. You're putting the cart before the horse.

This is why I find Marvel threads so frustrating. :brick:

Think for yourselfer
It must make you guys feel really good to tear somebody down for trying to share news with you that some already knew, huh? . Guess what? Not everybody did, and I appreciate the post.

So much ridiculous negativity on here the past few years. No wonder I've been a member for eleven years and hardly post anymore.

Yea....Negative posts are the worst...

Yet another fine demonstration of the decline the WDWMagic forums.

Right on, any word on things happening backstage? You are such an insider, maybe you know where they are putting the ironman simulator?

Disney World is not a theme park. I am confused by your statements.

That would be outstanding.

Yes, I can't debate how much it will cost Disney to get those rights now, its going to cost a huge sum of cash the more money Avengers makes, thats the problem Iam seeing.

My point is, Disney is making a huge deal over the success of the Avengers which in turn is going to make people want those characters in the parks, especially Disney World, and for an average guest who does not read these boards, of which there are millions, how can Disney throw the Avengers around as a huge money making property, which it apparently is, and not have them in there biggest resort?

Contract or not, we will see Marvel at Disney World, the writing is on the wall.

Jimmy Thick-Enjoy Marvel at IoA while you can.

The majority of people who do not read these boards have no idea that Disney owns Marvel. A lot of them don't know the difference between Universal and Hollywood Studios.

ONLY the kind of Disney fanatics who frequent these boards care about the kind of things you're talking about. The rest of the world doesn't think in those terms.

About every three years just before we take another trip I will get on this site and start following threads. It is always amazing to me how some people go crazy over someone starting a thread that has been discussed multiple times already. There are very few "New" topics to discuss in the world of Disney. If it were not for people posting repeat topics this would be a very small forum. Why don't we start a whole new section on this site called "New and only new topics" and those of you who get all worked up about such things can just stay there. Flame away at my opinions or my grammar or what ever else those of you like to do. Obviously there are many if not even the majority of people on this site that I am probably NOT talking to. I apologize to you!

I dont really like this. I love Marvel, but whats with "Avengers"? So much focus just because it had a big opening. They can't just focus on them. There is more to Marvel than just the Avengers. Geez.

As long as it comic based and they do not base any attraction on the movies, I will be fine with it guess. Plus, expand to the rest of the Marvel Universe eventually.

I've heard this thrown around a lot...and it just wouldn't work. Yes, there are some scenes that are similar between TF/SM...But TF is a two level attraction with elevator scenes that aren't possible in Spider-man.

The attraction would lose a lot moving it over and trying to shoehorn it into the Spider-man building. I'd expect something from TF to replace T-2 in Universal before looking at Spider-man.

I'm not speaking of the Spider-Man attraction being a clone of the west coast TF ride – I'm talking about an overlay of the entire area.

As for the SM ride, it doesn't have to be a clone. A new video could be made and the sets revised with little trouble. The ride lends itself to a TF type attraction.

Ahhh here is a question that maybe you or someone could answer... I was under the impression that Universal cannot add anything new into Marvel Super Hero Island without Disney's consent now that Disney owns Marvel... I admit, I really don't know the truth to that statement... But, I have seen it tossed around the internet a lot...

So, say Universal did want to put an Avengers ride into IOA, would they need Disney's permission to do so?

I believe you are correct, from what I've heard.

I seriously doubt that.

I know people who don't even go to the parks who are well aware Disney owns Marvel, give the general public the benefit of the doubt, they are more aware than anyone would think. Plus people see the Avengers movies know its a Disney film, not to mention all the recent press releases coming from Disney.

Oh...

To all the people bashing the OP about yet another Marvel thread, all it takes is a little thought and before you know it you have a active discussion, my advice, don't judge a thread by its title.

I hate Marvel. Its emotional feel completely clashes with Disney. Marvel in WDW would feel like scenes from Deliverance along the banks of the Rivers of America.

So I, for one, am happy that our insiders have confimed that the Avengers ride is coming to Islands of Adventure in 2014. ;)

And those who watched the second credits scene surely know as it is tagged Disney just before the scene.
