News New Main Street, U.S.A Costumes for Cast Members at Magic Kingdom

“Wearing an uncomfortable costume on Main Street makes you a better person” is among the more absurd things I’ve read in this forum (and the competition for that prize is stiff indeed).
I couldn’t agree more, here is the poster’s reward…

So much of what is shown in the image doesn’t fit well (too long more than anything) and is wrinkly. It just seems odd to not get people into better fitting items unless of course better fitting items aren’t actually available.
Or they’re wearing new clothes that haven’t been washed yet (wrinkles are from packaging, they’re too long because they haven’t shrunk in the wash yet.)

If you're showing off new clothes as a PR move, most companies would make sure they are pressed and ready for media attention (even the smallest boutiques do this, I'm pretty sure Disney can handle it).

I think you need to change up how you’re washing your clothes. They shouldn’t be shrinking so much as to make these items a better fit, nor would they shrink in exactly the perfect way to make a sleeve not too long.

I remember when they changed the Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest costumes to streamline them. While the t-shirts for Kali were gross, the Everest costumes were sorely missed, and definitely stripped some story away from the experience with the “Himaylan Escapes” patch taken away. Cast members were upset, too, it made working at the ride feel more Disney and less Six Flags. Not sure if they’ve brought it back.

I’m happy that the costumes are much more comfortable now - but I will draw attention to how ill-fitting the vest is. The effect is of a tuxedo printed onto a t-shirt. Yes, it’s more comfortable, but the material is clearly not even close to looking like what a normal person would wear (at the turn of the century or otherwise).

This is way less about cast comfort and so much more about being able to throw these garments in the wash without separating the ascots and vests. I’m sure a few people at costuming have lost their jobs because of these. Don’t let them fool you, this “parachute fabric” is only marginally more breathable, and certainly feels like you’re wearing a durable costume from Spirit Halloween.

That’s how they are going to look on most Cast Members. Since they have started lowering the quality of materials they don’t fit properly and look sloppy.

Yeah, these look fine to me. And if they make cast members happy, all good. My only issue would be if they stuck out as not fitting into the theme/decor at all, and obviously not the case here.
They look fine to me also, whether they are more comfortable for the CMs or not seems irrelevant, if they did this for CM comfort they could have simply remade the old costumes in the new fabric and no one would have noticed, the only thing that matters from a guest point of view is whether they look appropriate… and in this case they do IMHO.

You can put a positive spin on any budget cut if you want. When I mentioned the cuts in landscape I was told it’s better for the environment. Cuts to fireworks would also be better for the environment.

“Cast Comfort” is a funny spin for the company to take on this but obviously some are buying it so good job on the creativity.
