New Harry Potter Coaster Confirmed for 2019 (Dragon's Challenge Closing Sept 4th)

The show scene directly before the spike is outdoors. So it kind of makes sense not to enclose it. Also, the vehicles are only on the spike for a few seconds anyway. And being able to see a ride vehicle in that section of track from a distance could be a diliberate “weenie” anyways.

I think the fact that the spike appears to have a facade of sorts could be a clue that someone doesn't consider the outdoor spike optimal. Personally, I'm concerned that we'll be able to see backstage from that height, and then you run into the sort of immersion breaking Dragons suffered from, except this time it's on a relatively highly themed ride.

You are facing the sky, and only for a couple of seconds. You can see far more backstage areas and for a much longer time on a few other Universal and Disney attractions.

I'm not too concerned about the spike, but there are a few other spots I fear might have major immersion-breaking moments unless they really nail the landscaping.

Have not seen this posted before. I know it's a home made thing. Impressive effort went into it imo.

If it looks like this, it is going to be fantastic. I think the speed of the launches in this animation are too high though.

You can still look to the side. I don't think the visibility of backstage on other attractions would excuse its presence on this one, no matter how brief. Not to mention it would be a first for a built-from-scratch Potter attraction.

I'm wondering about the spot with the backwards spiral, just before the drop track, in particular. I assumed this area would be covered and in the dark based on the ride's description, but they've left it open so far and there's a big, unthemed show building sitting right next to the track.

I am sure they still have a good deal of theming to do and the ride will be fine. It was funny though to watch the YouTube video by
Midway Mayhem, of the test runs. You see one of the views he had showed the ride traveling through and area with about ten port-a-potties on either side of the track. Which begs the question does Hagrid .... in the woods?

Judging before it even opens? That never happens.

Not really. In terms of exterior theming, they have very little to do with landscaping and some painted walls like the drop building and possibly the sound walls behind the attraction. We’re in test & adjust territory. The next step being to hand over the ride to ops, which will probably happen next month.

From the new aerial pics it appears scaffolding is going up around the drop-track building. Could we finally be seeing some theming coming to that building?

It's nice to see trees lined up so straight in a row, just like in actual forests...

Yep, now we see what they do with it and what they plant after the painting is done.

Gotta say, nothing but "go away green" for the drop track building is pretty disappointing and I hope is not true. I mean, it's absolutely going to be visible, right? Like why go to all this effort but fall short there?

Wow Universal didn't even build the ride in a real forest. I guess 90% really is universal.

But actually i think the reason for this is there will be smaller trees in front of those and those are just meant to block the view.
Yeah, for safety reasons, and with Florida's unpredictable violent storms, it isn't safe to have tall trees close to coaster track. Disney originally made this mistake with Everest and tall bamboo along the ride track. They later replaced it with shorter shrubbery.

Especially when the back corner of it is so visible from the Hogwarts Express platform. (screen grab of video courtesy of Midway Mayhem)

If that concept art is 100% correct, only the left side of that building will get paint/scrim, making this view even more awkwardly worse... 🤨
