I will forever hate Harry Potter for what it did to the original Dueling Dragons. It was one the best rides of all time, with probably the greatest queue.

Whatever is in the place where it once stood doesn't have a hope of competing with it. Yeh I'm sure the crowds will be drawn simply because it's Potter but nothing will ever match the brilliance and beauty of that ride.
SIGHHHHHHHH

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I would like to know what kind of attraction it will be, will there the forbidden forest ?
The general consensus is that it is an Intamin Blitz multiple launch ride system (Maverick, Cheetah Hunt), with extensive theming, AAs, and a few surprises. It will mostly be outside, with 3 inside scenes. There will be lots of trees, but we're not sure if it is the "Forbidden Forest".

So does this mean it’s going to be more “thrill” and less “family” when classifying the ride?

I don't believe there are any inversions. I'm guessing about as intense as Everest.
Oh, that’s not great.. but Everest is fun, so i guess I’ll say it’s “ok”.

I'm hoping it will take a family route, have some show case scenes involving animatronics, etc

Given the age of Harry Potter fans, which I think would be around 8years old and up, but could be wrong., I’d hoped that they would choose something as equally as thrilling as what is being replaced.

I think a big part of the reason the previous attraction was replaced was that it was too big of a thrill ride for its current location.

If you want inversions and loops, you could always go to SixFlags, and you still have some coasters already in the park.

What i am sick of going to Universal is three out of four of our family waiting on the sidelines as one person goes on the thrill ride that no one else likes. Rollercoasters are highly devisive in that regard.
We were at a Cedar Fair Park last night doing all of the thrill rides, had a blast!
There’s always Disney if you want the entire family to ride the attractions as a unit. :)

Seriously, I think I said this earlier in the thread, but for what is being replaced at IoA it will make me a bit sad if they go a Disney ride route.
Uni has always been the natural progression as Kids got older, in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I love Disney, and my kid loves Disney...and the magic of “family togetherness” attractions is amazing, and to me the largest part of the charm. But Universal? That’s when the kids start to grow, and want more.
IoA has always been the more “thrills” and an older theme. Sad to see that change to a new direction, especially with the demographic of Potter fans. Universal, especially IoA, never catered to a “your 5 year old can do everything!” crowd. That’s what Disney is.

This commercial is to me exactly what Uni is.. and probably one of my favorite marketing campaigns that they’ve put out.

That probably makes sense. I don’t need a ton of inversions.. just something more intense than Disney rides...something that the more adventurous kids can get excited about, as well as adults.

I hope Universal doesn't try to go head to head with Disney for the family vacation. They are but I hope not likely Disney. I waited till my kids were old enough to enjoy Universal and I don't see what's wrong with that. Disney is fine but I like the feel of Universal better and I like full on places like Cedar Point.

Hopefully Universal will keep focused on a higher age demographic?
Their formula seems to be working. Get the kids a little older, make families give up a day or two with the mouse. One more gate and people may go 50/50. Disney is doing a ton right now but they've waited as long as humanly possible to react to competition.

Too early to tell.
There's a world of difference between the intensity of relatively mild Blitz coasters like Cheetah Hunt and something like Maverick.

Ew. You first.

What made Islands of Adventure so great was that it was the only park out there that combined multiple top-shelf thrills with top shelf themeing. I for one am hoping and praying that the Dragons' replacement has some real teeth.

Im in the middle. On one hand I want there to be a suitable replacement for what was a good coaster. On the other hand, the E ticket potter rides are both pretty intense for little potter fans. Forbidden Journey is extremely intense for some. I would really love to see them have a crack at a Mystic Manor type dark ride but next level.

How “little” are Potter fans though? My son just turned 8 (second grade) and is only now reading the first book.

They come in all sizes for sure, but currently there isnt anything for everyone. And a world class dark ride can make everyone ecstatic if its really really good.

It's not so much a matter of size or age as it is temperament. I would be surprised of anyone at Universal would consider it to be wise to build a Harry Potter themed attraction on the same thrill level as Forbidden Journey. I am expecting this to fall somewhere between that ride and Gringott's. Maybe in the same general ballpark as The Mummy.

It's interesting how different folks perceive "thrill". Although I really like all 3 rides, I find The Mummy the most thrilling of the 3 by far. Not even close. I actually don't even consider Forbidden Journey a thrill ride :). But I do not like inversions or loops and The Mummy is about as thrilling as I would go when it comes to coasters.
