You could with the boat but this is built to service the hotels. Just a bonus to take it park to park and the capacity blows boats and buses away. Also faster than walking.
Less tiring than walking too. I was going to say 'and cooler' but then I remembered that we are all going to cook in Disney's new Happy Cake floating ovens. The magic ingredient is love.

By doing these reports, I hope you realize we'll be expecting one big report once it's all open :). Should we start a "Send Lift Blog to WDW fund" now?

I plan on flying out for Skyliner opening day or soon thereafter. How long in advance do you guys think Disney will announce a specific date? Will anyone be able to ride the Skyliner regardless of whether they have purchased park access and/or resort lodging?

Looking forward to riding the Blizzard Beach lift too.

When the Skyliner opens, how many hundreds of thousands of lift enthusiasts can we expect to descend upon WDW?

A major principle of ski lift design is to go only as high as necessary for clearance and desired tower spacing. Going higher adds cost, decreases wind resistance and complicates an evacuation.

Of course... but it juat doesnt fit the stereotypical images you have of enclosed cabins... when its over flat ground at like 20ft :)

I mean... i wouldnt be shocked if the old skyway ends up being taller than most of the line :)

I think you should get a month or two notice, but the other question is whether there will be a soft open before the official opening day.

You shouldn't have to pay to ride, but you will need to pay an entry fee for the Blizzard Beach lift. Unless you can convince Disney that you are a VIP Mommy Blogger.

Toy Story land got a date about 4 1/2 months ahead of time, so this might be treated similarly. But then again, this is transportation and not an attraction/land. It's been mentioned this should be open before or slightly before SWGE opens, so fall-ish 2019?

I'd think anyone would be able to ride it, admission or not. The Skyliner will dump you right outside the entrances of DHS and Epcot. You'd probably want to park at DHS and get on it from there (unless Star Wars land is opened, then it's going to be a mad house). Parking at Epcot would require admission since the Skyliner sits to the back of the park. I'm not sure if you'd be able to park at a resort.

I'm not sure if it's your first time to WDW, but if it is, go experience the parks too. There's something for everyone, especially a first timer.

Perhaps when the date gets closer (and if they know before us), one of the insiders can privately slip you the date... given how helpful you’ve been and all!

Unless the Skyliner differs from Disney transportation practices for the past few decades, you shouldn't need park tickets or a resort reservation at one of the affected resorts to ride it, though one or both would make being in place to ride it easier.

Blizzard Beach's lift is entirely contained within that park, so you'll need to be in there to ride it. I've always found it to be very useful, though.

I don't think we'll be staying at any of the affected resorts anytime soon, but do hope to take a Skyliner trip just for it's own sake next time we visit DHS, if time allows.

Being here this week... my only real comment on the system after seeing it in person is.. damn they are low.
Maybe it's so low that there will be less of a feeling of vertigo from the people who are afraid of riding it? Perhaps they will say, "Damn, those gondolas are so low to the ground that riding them didn't bother me as much as I thought it would."

Not for everyone, but I don't think the vertigo will be like you experience on the Peak 2 Peak gondola at Whistler.

Also, I don't think anyone will be base jumping from the Disney Skyliner. :)

Well, Disney does try to market "once in a lifetime" experiences...

The Skyliner tightrope is an upcharge.

My guess is you will get at least 3 to 5 months notice. Since they want people to book hotel rooms at resorts that are connected to the skyliner I think they will give some advance notice. Like others said it may “soft open” before the official opening day to work out kinks and help operations people get up to speed on loading/unloading before the opening day rush.
