News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner

Having some kind of direct non-bus transportation between AK-AKL is a good idea, but using gondolas again is probably pretty far down the list from an ROI/efficiency standpoint.

Skyliner is a huge factor to charge more per night at AoA, Pop, CB.

Seems like AKL always has availability. So does Coronado.

Skyliner would fill more rooms and increase rack rates per night at those resorts.

Oh sure, but another form of direct transportation would do the same thing, and would likely be a better ROI for Disney than another Skyliner for a variety of reasons.

Either way, I would love to see them add additional direct transport options.

Scandalous that AKL is the only Deluxe resort that only has Buses as a transport option.

I would say that though as its my Home DVC Resort.

So you chose it as your home resort knowing that, yet it’s “scandalous”?

Definitely not “scandalous” (also owner at AKL) but it’s definitely lacking a transportation benefit.
Adding.... DAK is the only one of the four theme parks that only has buses as a transport option.

So the Lodge just matched that.

I don't think it's right that it's the only Deluxe resort that doesn't offer more options. Doesn't change my view on the resort which I love. In the grand scheme things, the extra time using buses is worth staying there for me.
We'll add a monorail and increase room rates by 40%!

I too would like more transit and don’t need to see Skyliner expand to places it shouldn’t go. But the gondola was fairly robust ROI compared to most other solutions, which are orders of magnitude more expensive.

Not sure if they ever would but if they did a similar set up to what they have for the skyliner you could connect AKL, to AK, to Blizzard Beach, to Coronado, to the All Starts ... then could increase rates at those hotels - maybe add another Tower at Coronado or even a DVC (ala Riviera)

The problem is that the Skyliner has a lot of problems/inefficiencies that other forms generally don't have -- that's my understanding as to why Disney soured on it and killed plans for any major expansions.

The fact that it costs less upfront doesn't necessarily mean the ROI is better than other options long-term.

You would be burned to a cinder by the time you got to AKL without AC.......

Just FYI, I marked how many minutes each leg would be...

I don’t know about these problems and inefficiencies at all. Is this documented/ well-known?

I understand the backup bus fleet issue but it’s same with boats/monorails.

When was the last monorail resort built? I'm not counting DVC add-ons.
When was the last resort built which uses boats. Probably the new Lakeside.

Scooters at Riviera slows the CBR- EPCOT leg.

Actual capacity is a bit lower then theoretical capacity. How many cabins are dispatched at capacity?

Blizzard Beach as a hub? I don't think so.
