The gondolas will transport far more guests than buses running the same routes.
I agree, just wasn't sure what was meant by that, apparently a statement I never heard before. They are going to be fun and are going to be very efficient. I'm looking forward to them even though I will not be staying anywhere onsite, you can bet I am going to ride it from beginning to end at least once.

I love the idea and it adds another layer of kinetics to the property. The efficiency issue is a nice bonus...I think many people forget that the busses can hold, mayyyybeeee, fifty people, if they are really crammed on. Lets assume the busses always arrive on average 10 minute intervals (we know that isn't likely, but lets go with WDW numbers). We get an average throughput of about 300 people per hour. The gondola will likely be able to move that many people in ten minutes...

I am looking forward to using the gondolas and I completely agree with you @Goofyernmost .

So WDW has Monorails, they have buses, they MinnieVans, and now they will have Skyliner Gondolas. What other type of transportation method could they possibly add to their infrastructure that could be used for public/guest use? Another type of train or tram system? Traveling in tubes??

WEDWAY peoplemover, PRT, light rail, inventing new transportation as Disney requires...

Slight misuse of the term swamped on my part. This was the usage I was trying for

My vocabulary isn't as good as I think it is.

Ah, but onto the important questions:
  • Will there be charging ports available onboard?
  • Will there be Disney music piped in?
  • Will there be a drive-thru McDs along the way?
  • Will selfie sticks be permitted?
  • As my traveling companion instantaneously combusts, will Dwayne Johnson appear in a firefighter outfit, with suspenders, minus the shirt to put out the flames? ;)
  • Will stupid questions such as these continue until the gondolas finally open and we have 1,002 vloggers recording all of the above for us?

  • No, but some will undoubtedly try to "plug in" to a traveling companion...
  • No, you will be forced to whistle Disney music
  • No, because you could be burned by hot coffee
  • No, because they attract lightning (see the last bullet point)
  • No, he'll be busy filming his 472nd movie this decade
  • Yes, but only until the vloggers ride the gondolas first and spontaneously combust while being eaten by hungry alligators after being struck by lightning and falling into the swamps. (We can only hope... ;))

Interesting, had no idea a cable driven system like this was installed in the US.

The WEDWay People Mover which is in TomorrowLand at the Magic Kingdom actually has a pretty surprising thruput of around 3800 guests per hour.l, and this was based on technology from the late 1960s and features an open air design. Modern advancements could certainly safely increase the top speed above its current 6 mph, especially on straightaway sections.

It would only go up in capacity, and modern advancements such as selectable destinations could most certainly be applied, meaning to transfers or additional lines.

Not sure of why Disney did not investigate this more given it could open potential revenue streams as it would be a solid technology to showcase. I could easily see hotel/convention center combos being interested in such a technology.

Just contact the Swiss company CWA and order an Animal Kingdom version of the Hogwarts Express. That 'locomotive' is cable driven !

A full bus can handle about 70-80 passengers.
