Wow. The gondola poles are lower than the trees and even the lampposts. We'll be hanging from the ground at the height of half a tree's height.

So what you are saying, that when riding the gondolas, there is a very good chance that you will be killed by getting hit by a passing bus!!!

Add that to the list of possible ways to die on these un-air conditioned flying boxes of death!!! ;)

Not killed, they'll just eat away the floor. If you want the complete kill experience you need the Four Seasons or Bonnet Creek buses, those are extra.

With Disney's amazing new automation system and the bus lanes the twain shall never meet.
They will run like the German rail system

Another factor, is that for the first 25 years of the Magic Kingdom's lifetime, fireworks were not a nightly event. They were during the summer but all other Seasons they were limited to pretty much Weekends Only and sometimes not even that. They were also much shorter, much less elaborate, and only featured aerial fireworks. Nothing launching off the castle nothing flanking it from its sides. As the firework shows evolved and became more Castle Centric the eyes needed to drop down to Castle level not just the skies above castle level. The trees had grown substantially in the lifetime of the Magic Kingdom. These two things collided and the demand to see the fireworks clashed with the growth of the trees. The shows are now much longer, much more elaborate, and even before Happily Ever After, fireworks started launching off of the castle and from its immediate left and right. It changed the dynamic of viewing the fireworks show.

Also to say there are no trees in the hub is a exaggeration. There are trees in the hub. They're just not in the middle of the Hub but the Hub has trees, so if you really want to sit under a tree in the shade at the Hub of the park, honestly you really still can. In the evening they even have twinkle lights in them.
And the original fireworks show wasn't even behind the castle. It was shot off in the Seven Seas Lagoon. The reasoning was the castle here was so big it would block the view of some of the fireworks. But no matter how many times you told people (The spiel even said "Look to the skies over the Seven Seas Lagoon") people would always look towards the castle. They finally gave up and moved it.

In fact, I just looked up from my computer and we have a picture of the castle taken from within the hub. The trees are actually taller than the castle from that vantage point. Also, they make the castle look small. That was always my beef with the palm trees at SSE up until the most recent refurb. They would have this variety of palm like the ones on Hollywood Blvd that grew really tall, but they made SSE look small. Now that I mention it, they should also replace the ones on Hollywood Blvd. with the smaller variety.
Thats because SSE originally had square-shaped trees on the sides. Too much work I guess so they were replaced with the palms

Of course the best ride woul be the lightning strike that cause the gondola to fall into the water where you have to get out of the auto locking doors just to fight off alligators on your swim to shore. Sorry handi people you aren't going to make it to shore.

A friend once described to me the experience of being below in a sailboat when lightning struck the mast. Based on his description, falling into the water would not be the problem. o_O (The sailboat survived just fine.)
