It is a "turning station" and it is still a point where the taught cables will be pulled down to the ground.

Its going to be the same cable going in and out of it. At least, thats how its done on the turns I've been on at ski resorts.

The cables are always taught. Its not going to be one cable coming in from one direction and another going out the other direction. Thus, the cable wouldn't be able to be 'pulled down to the ground'.

The cable wants to be a straight line. The station is counteracting that desire and all of those forces have to be anchored down in the foundations that are in the ground.

Can someone who may be "in the know" tell us definitively how many stations (points where you can get onto/off of the gondola to walk to nearby hotels/attractions) this system will contain and the location of the stations? Everyone seems to be certain of the stations at EPCOT, Studios, and AOA, but there seems to be some debate/uncertainty as to what goes on in the middle (such as if the two "turns" are just turns or if there will actually be stations at one/both of those turns. Thanks!

The Boardwalk "turning station" is the only building where guests will not load and unload.

Stick a stake in the ground, wrap a string around it at about a 45 degree angle, and then pull on both ends. Unless you have the stake buried pretty deep, you will pull it over.

Put more stakes (towers) along the path of the string that also take up some of the tension and the foundation of any one of those stakes doesn't need to be anywhere near as deep.

They need to carry the weight of the cable from halfway between the next tower/station on either side of it, plus the weight of any gondolas and passengers on that portion of cable. The weight is applied at an angle to the station if that station is a turning station (like the one being discussed here). I'm sure the capability of the foundations is significantly higher to compensate for variability and the unknown.

I can't wait to see the EPIC foundations for this station. They are going to be HUGE. Why? The stresses on the building to keep it firmly in place are going to be pretty large especially with the craptacular soil conditions of Florida.
What's the over/under on the first traffic accident at either that very busy intersection, or the entrance to the Speedway, because some non-local driver gets distracted by the gondola line?

Like trying to catch a glimpse of Space Ship Earth through the trees as one operates a motorized vechicle at 50+ mph? Ditto for Castle. Same for Monorails along World Drive. Will it happen? Probably. Is it really going to be an more or less then any of the other road side distraction while driving the WDW property? Unlikely.

I'm sure it will happen but no more likely or often than happens with the monorail.

I'll throw this in here since I haven't seen it mentioned yet (or it has and I missed it) but there's rumor that WDW is going to start an Uber-like car service. If that's true it will be interesting to see how it meshes with the advent of a gondola system and a reduction in buses.
