When I was a kid we were just excited to be at Disney and going on the monorail...and looking out and being amazed...we didn't need cartoon characters to make the monorail look cool...or to keep our interest.
Sure kids like cartoons and characters... but putting them on everything seems unnecessary to me. The Skyliner cars are cool all on their own... and the tradeoff for a character vs a view (to me) is not worth it. I think these transportation systems are interesting even to kids, all on their own...and kids would appreciate them even if the characters were not there...it would be "I want the blue car!" instead of I want the Cinderella car....
Ha! So true…when I was a kid, had to be green everything, green balloon on Main Street, green car at the raceway, green bucket on the skyway. Oh the disappointment when it wasn’t green, lol!

Not really

You can see strobe animations on some tunnel train lines…

You have art designs lkke the neon over the moving sidewalks at ohare…

All kinds of examples of making something that may otherwise be a bear or boring and trying to make it a bit more joyful
Missed the point. Its the guests/users that idolize it as an attraction, not the builders.

No one goes to O'Hare and focuses on riding the moving sidewalks and treats it differently if the neon lights aren't working. Or waits for them to turn on. Thats essentially what people do with the Skyliner.

...I do 😅

I just love those neon lights so gosh darn much. It's really a disappointment if I'm flying from O'Hare and don't get to see them.

That said, I haven't been on the Skyliner, so I don't have a horse in this race

IMHO no one goes to O'Hare if there are alternatives.

Ah yes, Terminal 1's Neon Tunnel..Fun Fact: Sometimes if your there you can hear the music playing with the neon..It plays "Rhapsody in Blue" (United Airlines theme) while your making your journey to the other side..

Unless you live 5 mins from it like I do...😏
50 years ago we used O'Hare as a playground at night. Park at the ends of the runways for the light show then wander the terminals and out on the ramps at night. No real security so you could pass through closed doors and down the stairs. It was very exciting to be there and I like the lightshows they installed from the "guest" side of the place as I pass though now. It's where I grew up to me so not the big bad wolf.

The Skyliner really is an attraction to/for kids, though. There are a lot of kids who are nearly as excited about riding it as anything in the parks.

But thats my exact point. It shouldn't be. Its transportation. Same with the monorail. They aren't meant to be an attraction, so stop treating them like they are.

It's just the uniqueness compared to riding the Bus, Tram or Boat to your destination..You're not expecting it if you never had been there..This is also why you don't have families riding up front on the monorail anymore because they were treating it as such. But, also due to safety concerns as well.

The monorail is an attraction. To people who have never been to WDW before, the monorail is something most look forward to riding. It’s unique in it’s setting.

Even as an adult when I first visited and stayed offsite, I couldn’t wait to ride it. And back in those days where we (in the U.K. at least) booked through brochures, I was always hugely disappointed that the Contemporary wasn’t an option for us. That A frame hotel with a monorail running through it was somewhere I wanted to stay at so badly.

The Skyliner is much the same with it’s character cabins, albeit to a lesser degree. If they were in themed maybe not so much.

I don't know. There's a train in magic kingdom. Cedar point has a skyliner totally in the park as a ride. I don't think it's crazy to think of those are like rides for people.
And, so what if they are?

(Not directed at you, I know you aren't scoffing at people who actually enjoy some of the transportation options at WDW.)

You can't really make a kid stop thinking something is an attraction if they enjoy it -- I know people who basically have to stay at a Skyliner resort because riding the Skyliner back and forth is one of the highlights of the trip for their kids.

If someone actually invented a molecular transporter, and Disney installed one at the TTC with available destinations including all 4 major parks, would that be an attraction or transportation?

First of all…. You seem angry that people enjoy something at Disney world?

Second… I love that moving sidewalk and the neon lights at o’hare and I’ve gone out of my way to go through the tunnel! It always takes me back to old school Epcot and Tomorrowland!

I’ve gone out of my way to ride specific transit vehicles in various cities. Life is more fun if you can enjoy things.

I was team purple as a kid. Originally I was kind of excited for the wraps of the skyliner. But having experienced it in person so many times now, I agree that the degregation of the view caused by the wraps is not worth the trade-off. Maybe they can just wrap the bottom half or at least keep the forward facing section unwrapped? It's a cute idea but there needs to be a way to also maintain the view.

Went to the World's Fair in '64 and we stayed at the Waldorf. I pestered my parents to use the subway to get to the fair because I liked riding and thought it was fun. They did once or twice I think but what innocent eyes I must have had to think it was OK and not see it for what it was.
