If Disney really cared about Guest service, they should have escorted those Guests to the porte cochere and picked them up under cover.Being stranded in a bad lightning storm is just a regular failure of Disney planning and not unique to the skyliner. On my last trip they kicked everybody out of the monorail at Polynesian and told them they could go take buses from the front of the resort to MK for transfer elsewhere. So when no more people fit under the awning, there were plenty of geniuses standing nearby with their umbrellas out.
Nobody knew how or when they would get anywhere.
Disney earned it's reputation for taking care of their Guests in the mid 20th century. Unfortunately, they haven't lived up to that reputation in years. (I might add the same with respect to taking care of cast members.)
