News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

Just like all the Disneyland people complaining there was nothing new announced for Disneyland at D23 and somehow turning a blind eye to the whole Avengers thing.
We’re not turning a blind eye. We’re *rolling* our eyes at how incredibly lame the Avengers thing sounds. But, anyway, just watched a well-done on-ride vlog tour of the entire Skyliner system. Looks fun.

It was running normally. It would appear that unless they weren’t loading cabs, it couldn’t keep up.
Our load post illuminations was pretty quick despite a very long line similar to the picture shown. There were a lot of stoppage issues on the line, because of door opening issues at the other end. I did comment to my co-riders how long the lines will be after opening, but I was impressed. It is operationally similar to an omnimover system that doesn't stop for ECVs and there's no fastpass+. Remember how fast those used to move? It is far superior to the buses.

Just so I know, what exactly am I a local fanboy of? If I'm a fanboy of only the Skyliner, what a sad life I have. If I'm a Disney fanboy, wouldn't I also love SWGE?

I just mean that what is 'new' is relative. You said that "It's sad that the greatest new thing at WDW is transportation." As someone that isn't local and considers other things that opened this year (or even less than a month ago) to also still be new, the gondola is nowhere near the most exiting new thing.

You are correct, and I don't mean to take away from anyone that is excited for SWGE. I do not think that Skyliner holds the excitement for some people that "standing in the millennium falcon" does for hardcore Star Wars fans. I never said it was the most exciting, I said it is the greatest. Perhaps my choice of words was a bit much, but I am not sure. As a local fanboy who has ridden them both a few times now, I think Skyliner is more interesting and fun for repeat rides. There are however no repeat rides, because it is not a screen. SWGE is well themed, but it falls flat with its lack of streetmosphere, life, and things to do.

They will continue to look exactly like they do now. Galvanized Steel. Look at any metal traffic light poles... high power lines.. all the same stuff.
Strange that they had that one support painted/tinted green at Epcot. I’m guessing that’s some kind of permanent colouring?

If they could do that there you think they may have done it for some of the others that are smack in the middle of a resort.

Still, can’t wait to ride it, probably end up being my kid’s favourite “ride”

I do think they should have screened or enclosed the overhead equipment at CBR. I don't think the exposed view there was all that necessary.

Agreed, they clearly can enclose it and all the exposed steel and workings while fascinating doesn’t really go with the aesthetic of that station.

In general people are taking photos at Epcot of the world showcase area, so its worth spending the money on regularly painting a support in a theme park. At the hotel its a lot less likely people are taking photos of general buildings so why spend the money to paint things every year?

Shame about the towers staying plain steel, only real let down unless they will age in a nice way?

I'd rather have them as galvanized steel than painted and peeling.

There's just too many of them over too great of a distance on a transportation feature as opposed to a ride that could shut down for a season to referb. It just wouldn't make sense for them to burden themselves with that.

Based on the speed of load, I doubt you will need to worry...They are loading 8-10 every eight seconds.

I get the joke, but Im pretty impressed with how fast they are loading these.

I’m sure there are situations that create a bottleneck. But hey this is a dress rehearsal after all. I’m sure boarding (which is the key to this) will get better. Looked manageable the times I passed by. But I didn’t see how it was right after illuminations.

Yes. It should be rather efficient. And more reliable than the bus system.

Someone needs to get in there with a dart gun and start tagging guests so we can see how long they wait. 100 guests every hour at every station should give us the data we need.
