New Epcot opening procedure?

I actually miss the original daily opening for Epcot. On a visit in 1988, we arrived early to the turnstiles, and got to hear it, and liked it so much we came back early the next day just to experience it again - and it was just a basic announcement with music. It was the original "We've Just Begun to Dream" music used with the opening ceremonies of the park, with the voice over by (uh..... cant remember his name now, Jack something? - the original voice of the monorail, park announcements, etc.). The area music ended, then a fanfare of the music began, then faded back a bit and the voice over began - mentioning 'Walt Disney was a dreamer and a doer', a brief safety mention, etc, and also what EPCOT Center's mission was, and then ended with "welcome to the 21st century!" the music then got much louder after the voice over ended and had a repeat of the fanfare, and on that cue was when they opened the turnstiles and began admitting guests. The music finished out for about another minute. Very simple, but very effective. A confetti blast would have been fun though!

My Epcot Opening Procedure as a guest was pretty routine. I would go up to a Cast Member greeting/welcoming around the "Leave a Legacy Walls" and always ask "When did all these people die? (pointing at a wall)".

:sohappy::ROFLOL: Thank you for that...hope you dont mind if I borrow that for my next visit!

I can't see people walking through the turnstiles in an orderly manner. Maybe 10-15 years ago people would walk, but now? No way. Soarin & TT are too popular, and some people too greedy. Someone on another board posted a clip of opening at TDL where people take off at a dead sprint, strollers and all. I can completely see it being that way. At least with the prior method they had the ability to ensure an orderly walk to the attractions.

I'm not sure if I ever saw the Epcot opening show. Were guests not escorted to the rides from the Fountain of Nations? I know that at MK, any guests who are in the Hub before opening are escorted to rides by CMs in the land they're entering when the park opens. The CMs make sure you stay behind them and walk to their ride.

I assume there will still be ropes at either side of Innoventions Plaza, with guests being escorted to Soarin' and Test Track.

Now that you mention it. My family was there 8/23. A family counted down from ten, right in front of the bio scanners, then we were let in. Stopped at the usual place. A few characters were around, but I don't think there was TT car. Then escorted to Soarin as usual.

Have they changed the Magic Kingdom opening song yet? "The castle leads the entry way to seven lands and more..."

I heard from a friend at Disney that Storybook Circus may eventually be deemed its own "land" - even though to all the rest of us, it's just part of Fantasyland.

No. I guess 6 lands just does not have the same ring to it.

It doesn't at all. Seven sounds a lot better. I bet they just leave it like that until SC opens.

Until 2013 they will have ConstructionLand!:lookaroun:lol:

So THAT'S why I was so confused! My boyfriend and I were there just a couple weeks ago and I had previously read about all the opening shows. They basically just said good morning in different languages at the gates where everyone was in line and then shot streamers out. We were like, "That's it?"

It was funny though, my boyfriend describes it as, "good morniiiiiiing...." *explosion sound with mouth*

The new Epcot opening is indeed a bit flat, but could be something connected to the upcoming Test Track refurb.

Maybe.

So, which parks have opening shows with characters now? Just MK and AK? I read on another thread that the AK opening show is getting the ax at the end of the month. Never been to DS at opening. Do they have a show?

AK's is supposedly dying. DHS used to have an opening with a theme of filming a movie. It didn't have Disney characters, but did have streetmosphere actors. It's gone now. So soon MK will be the only real opening celebration.

Hopefully they still let you past the turnstiles before park opening as this will definitely rush things as the park will be open and people will be rushing to try and get in.

I would think the new ticketing technology will help because the turnstiles will be eventually removed.

Considering the penchant TDO has to cut "unnecessary" costs, I can't say that I'm surprised that we're seeing the opening shows disappear. Disappointed, but not surprised.
