New EPCOT DVC?

The worst thing about an Epcot DVC might not be the location (as much of a mistake and abomination as that is certain to be). What's potentially worse is an inappropriate theme and architectural design, particularly for a resort situated so close to a theme park. Consider how an ugly monstrosity like Bay Lake Tower would look visible over most areas of the park - perhaps even over World Showcase. Indeed, has anyone considered how a medium or high-rise structure would look next to Spaceship Earth? Or does anyone - within Disney - even care?

Personally, I have struggled with the villa designs and, specifically, their fit within existing resort grounds. VGF is simply too tall; it towers over the other lodges. Moreover, it lacks many of the Victorian architectural details found in the other lodge exteriors.

There is nothing futuristic or innovative about the design of BLT. The building would easily blend into the Chicago waterfront. They built a towering condo high-rise that detracts from the original A-frame tower.

Although I know the WL and VWL storyline, I truly do not understand the lodge next to the lodge.

Of all the DVC resorts, the only one that really seems close architecturally and thematically is BCV.

Agree, using up more Epcot real estate for conventions and now rooms is bothering. Might as well just open the place up to the public as one giant shopping mall, bar, dining, and rooms. They have given up on attractions..... Im guessing logistically this would incoporate the two large expansion pads in world showcase next to Germany (one of which would have been Africa) with some type of access to the main road. Just seems like it would make for a mess in terms of backstage etc. Unless they are looking at the main parking lot.

Nah' EPCOT Hotel and Casino -Fits in with the Drunkytown crowd.

In the short term, yes. But what happens when the 50-yer contracts run up and they have to start re-selling EVERYTHING? Will people buy back in or will they just be stuck with a bunch of empty hotel rooms?

I have long wondered about 2042 and the expiration of BCV, BWV, VWL, HH and VB.

Will there be a demand? Millions of points will be released with those expirations.

Personally, I expect HH and VB to be sold off.

My question to you is does the average DVC member know/care?

Looking back, I believe Aulani, Hilton Head or Vero Beach would have been a better purchase. You still have access to WDW at the 7-month mark, usually AKV, OKW and SSR, and do not have to worry about the future condition of the parks and resorts.

We DVC members take a huge risk and assume WDW will be just as magical 25 - 40+ years from now. Aside from Disney, I cannot think of any other company that could command such faith.

I think they should convert some of CBR over to DVC and connect it to Epcot with a waterway that goes under the street.

There are some interesting rumblings on other Disney discussion boards and, specifically, housekeeping union talks at CBR. Supposedly, there is talk of converting Trinidad South into DVC. The villas would be deluxe accommodations, but at a moderate resort.

Maybe they should take out a few of the islands themed villages at CBR and build a 7 story building to house the DVC Deluxe rooms.

Saratoga Springs evokes nothing to me... Horse themed but no stables or actual horses... Northern architecture that is neither whimsical or particularly more interesting than a very nice apartment complex... I have been there, stayed there and was underwhelmed.

This!

Where are the stables and horses? I completely agree that the theme was not fully executed.

Yeah but I don't want to pay premium DVC prices to stay at a moderate resort...
I have stayed at CBR...it was ok... Felt very disconnected from the parks...like Saratoga Springs...
If we purchase more DVC points it would only be for a resort connected somehow with the parks...As far as I am concerned anyway...I know some people love Saratoga Springs....But a Moderate DVC or a Value DVC have no interest for me.

Just imagine....

You might not have to imagine in a few years.

I'd favor ski gondolas out of Germany or Italy themed to the Alps. :cold:

They could transport you from tropical to glacial and back magically. Cause it is Disney. :geek:

I personally don't think it's a good idea to put in a Yacht Club DVC, although they probably will. The Stormalong Bay pool complex is already crowded, and if they add another 200 rooms or something it won't help the situation.

If they did a CBR DVC, they would either have to price it lower, or lower the points per night. CBR just doesn't have the amenities that the other deluxe resorts have, that the other DVC rooms have access to, like nicer restaurants, a health club, better feature pool, walking or boat service to theme parks or downtown Disney, etc. I know I wouldn't spend the same number of points to stay there as to stay at any of the others.

Oh, no, Steve! No more timeshare towers.

I realize that towers allow for greater point sales, but they ruin the sight lines. VGF is 2 stories higher than it should be in height. The villas should have been comparable in structure to Big Pine Key and Boca Chica.

I was thrilled when you announced that the Polynesian would not have the T-shaped towers. Had I known that the Polynesian was going to be a straight conversion, I would not have purchased VGF points in 2013. I much prefer conversion over DVC annexes and towers.

I agree. GF is just too big but I don't know enough about CBR to know how it would look. I guess if it was off in its own area it might be okay. Those big buildings in the middle of the Polynesian would have been strange. It is too bad they did not move forward with the additional pool and lazy river at the Polynesian but it sounds like one will go in with the addition of DVC at the WL.
