New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

If it weren’t worth keeping around for the profits then we know it would be shuttered, so it is making enough profit somehow. I’d say about half the time I pop in just to people watch and enjoy the music for a little bit the floor is actually decently full.

Atlantic Dance will almost certainly outlast this new place. I’m betting it doesn’t last 5 years unless they revise their pricing downwards within the first two years.

I've heard for years that there's a deal in place with Swolphin which requires Disney to operate a nightclub on property, which is why it's there (still).

If profits were the only parameter, Mannequins would still be there.

This started a couple months ago but goes largely unnoticed

Seems like it would hard to get many people there for lunch -- Cake Bake Shop will have the same issue.

If you're at EPCOT, you already have numerous options, so it's unlikely you're going to leave and walk to the Boardwalk to eat, and not many people are both hanging out at their hotel in the middle of the day and want to go have a full sit down lunch.

Ale and Compass and Beaches and Cream are open for lunch. It will be nice to have a sitdown option on that side (Cake Bake Shop) of the lake.

And they're both relatively cheap (for Disney) places to grab a sandwich/burger.

My point was that I don't think there's a big market for people to sit down and have a big pasta dish at lunch (and certainly not for people to sit down and have a $34 ham and brie with $14 french fries at Cake Bake).

Looks like Trattoria al Forno at least offers a meatball sub and pizza, though, so that makes a difference.

That doesn't really make sense given Swolphin were built long before there was even a Boardwalk hotel....

When it opened… the boardwalk was a mini Downtown Disney.

Now it’s kind of in a no-man’s land - disney doesn’t advertise it, nor do they really want people to visit (try parking there).

Not sure if it’s true but supposedly the dance club still exists because of a weird contract with Swan and Dolphin?

But it’s a great place to hang out with fun entertainment and a lovely vibe.
I keep saying this as well. It's a mini-Disney Springs they actively are trying to kill. You actually used to be able to park at the resorts to experience them, I would stop by to grab Beaches and Cream a lot back in the 00s.

When it opened PI was in existence, so perhaps that satisfied the requirement? I genuinely don't know but still seems odd to me that in an era where everything closes at 11 and ADH is a ghost town most of the time it's open that it has lasted and not just been turned into a venue for special events.

For what it's worth, at least 3 people in Disney management over the years confirmed a contractual obligation for Disney to operate a nightclub for the Swan/ Dolphin . I was told it needed to be within a certain distance from the Hotels.

I guess the karaoke bar at the Swan doesn't count...

My guess - it’s either…

They only opened 6 years apart, if Boardwalk was already in the plans that could have been part of the deal from the beginning.

Or…

Disney proposed an updated contract for swan and dolphin with higher fees if the boardwalk directly connected to the swan and dolphin - the nightclub was part of that updated contract.

The cake wasn’t the problem, IMO. Yes, it was (and still is) very expensive, but you can at least see the logic with it supposedly being their specialty. It was everything else on the menu that was the central issue, particularly sides, sodas, and children’s items. They’re still pretty bad, but I suppose it’s a bit of an improvement.
