New Disney's Rapunzel Image

I saw this on Animatedviews.com and it shows a new image for Disney's Rapunzel.

While it does go back to CGI it looks pretty good..From the image it looks like they game Rapunzle a tom-boyish attitude IMO. This will be a good one to see.

From what I've read, they're trying to take CGI to new places here, introducing more of a traditional animated feel into the medium.

Because director Glen Keane wanted this to be an animated movie that looked and felt like a traditional hand-drawn Disney Classic in 3D, he first had a seminar called "The Best of Both Worlds", where he, with 50 Disney animators (CGI artists and traditional artists), focused on the pluses and minuses of each style.<sup id="cite_ref-4" class="reference">[5]</sup> Because of advancements in computer technology, many basic principles of animation used in traditional animated movies but which have been absent in CGI films due to technical limitations are now becoming possible also in this field of animation, where they will be used together with the potential offered by CGI. Keane has stated numerous times that he is trying to make the computer "bend its knee to the artist" instead of having the computer dictate the artistic style and look of the film. By making the computer become as "pliable as the pencil," Keane's vision of a "three dimensional drawing" seems within reach, with the artist controlling the technology.

In my opinion, if 2D as we know it were to ever go out, this is what I would want it to go out for. It’s not too different and would kind of be similar to when Disney switched from the Fox and the Hound/Great Mouse Detective form of animation to Oliver and Company. A form of 2D ended while a new birth of 2D began. This won't be the same thing since Disney has already said the current form of 2D will be coming back, but I do hope to see more of this should Rapunzel be successful and loved. Of course, if it is, I'm 100% sure DIsney will make more.

This is Disney going back to being innovative and trying something first. I was “wowed” by the images! I really think Disney is putting the same effort into this movie that they did with the renaissance films. It’s going to be great!

It's always been announced as CGI. From my understanding, films will now more-or-less alternate between CGI and hand-drawn.
