New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Let’s keep the eye on the ball here. While DAS abusers are detestable, the real villain is Disney and its monetization of wait times. The able bodied should extend empathy and understanding to the neurodivergent and differently-abled; it’s Disney’s desire to find new revenue streams and create multiple stratifications of the haves and have nots that have made these operational issues more acute.
No, they are not the real villain. Greedy sure, but anyone who is justifying their abuse of DAS because they don't want to pay for G+ is pure trash.

Besides, this happened WAY before G+ and ILL was a thing, hence the change to DAS and away from GAC to being with. You can't blame that one on Disney greed so why is this time different?

Eh, they are legally obligated to create new revenue streams per their shareholders. Growth at all costs is a key tenant of capitalism, it's just what it is and what the market demands. Calling it a "desire" makes it sound more sinister than just participating in capitalism.
I disagree they are “legally obligated to create new revenue streams per their shareholders.” They have a duty to maximize shareholder wealth. Are new revenue streams one way to do that? Sure. Is that the way to long-term revenue growth? It’s unclear, but G+ seems to have cannibalized other revenue streams (merch, food, resort bookings, gate turns).

I also don’t think this is happening because of consumer discontent; it’s because DAS turned into a functional competing service to its line-skipping $$ service.

Sorry for the stupid questions but I’m trying to figure this out while driving.

On the website it says only guests with developmental disorders?

So my Mom would no longer be eligible even with all her health problems from her cancer ?

They give it to her no questions asked right now.

Before FP+ the biggest complaint on surveys was wait times.

The same reason as always: failure to adequately provide capacity for 2024 travel crowds using 1999-2000 issue parks

That, and as @peter11435 so aptly puts it, Disney has created a culture in which guests are made to feel as if waiting in line isn't acceptable in the first place.
Some folks would love to physically be able to wait in line.

Some folks would love to physically be able to breathe and be able to wait in line at the same time

A lot of folks don't even understand this.

There was abuse prior to Genie+, but the problem has gotten markedly worse since then.

No, "developmental disabilities" makes it sound like its tied to a specific group, but is still rather vague.

Disney's goal here is to make it "difficult" for anyone to claim they need the pass. Any sort of serious disability will be accommodated in some capacity, but outright "skipping the line" will be reduced significantly.
Again, no one was “skipping the line”. And neither will they be doing so with this new DAS.

Another flaw that I know of, unless they have since changed it, is that you can immediately enter a virtual queue after scanning the second touch point (sometimes the first and only touch point).

So, if you're riding Space Mountain, you can enter the virtual queue for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin after the merge point, but before you actually get on the Space Mountain ride. This means that you're essentially riding a ride while waiting in line for the next attraction, same with things like The Haunted Mansion, which you can do before you even enter the building.

I also don't blame the guest/user for this since it's something Disney makes rather public. Disney could easily stop this by creating a five to ten minute delay after the scan is made, before you can select another attraction.
They actually are creating a 10-minute delay.

Do know Universal Charges north of $300 too, and it can go as high as $400 same day.

or is it SeaWorld where you can get express for rides AND reserve show seating:

Also they charge about 20 bucks shy of those prices for show seating reservations stand alone:

So... Is Disney the real villain here, I would wager no.

Yeah I'm sure they would agree with this as well, but also all these companies exist to make money and will do so until they stop making money on these changes.

Honestly the whole thing sounds like a PITA, even if I had a qualified disability I would just buy G+ and call it a day. what's a $100 over whatever time it takes to do all these and reveal all this personal info to a corporation.
