New Country at Epcot?!?!?

There is a concept floating around WDI for some major changes to the Outpost area. Not a new country, but a substantial infrastructure change that would require that area to be totally redone.

As in an actual new attraction? Or just more bars and shopping and expanded walking areas.

Shame about Brazil though, I honestly think Disney asks for too much money and this is why these countries/sponsors dont want to take part. Until Disney changes up how this works I dont think we will ever see a new country as such. This is the reason why recently the Norwegian government just voted down the latest proposal to sponsor Norway again, long story with many details, such is life I guess.

Brazil actually makes a lot of sense...

(1) Under new visa laws, more Brazilians will visit WDW than residents of any single state except FL

(2) Texas de Brazil, the Brazillian steakhouse, may be the best-reviewed non-WDW restaurant in Orlando. Quite a few imitators have already opened up (and Ohana, which is basically the same concept, never wants for crowds). A World Showcase Brazilian steakhouse could quickly become the new Le Cellier.

(3) The costumes/music of carnival would make for an eye-catching and fun live show.

(4) Two words: caipirinha bar.

Lee, since apparently you saw the now defunct plans, out of curiosity, was the design more Rio or rain forest?

well i have two questions...

1) is this recent news? because all that ive found have been a year or two outdated.

2) could disney be planning this expansion to be a major announcement during the 30th anniversary?

Approved! :D

New countries would be nice & all but can they please "re-future-ize" Future World, fix the Imagination Pavilion, & put the WoL pavilion to use other than "special events" first?

AMEN...EPCOT needs to be about Future World and presenting constant innovation . Wasn't that Walt's dream after all?

I remember my first trip as a kid with my parents & looking at the park map before we went in & thinking "This is going to be boring". Once I actually was in the park the Innoventions buildings were amazing to me! So many futuristic items & gadgets to play with & show off. Nowadays, they show tech that is already available for purchase, or use space to show kids how to save money or eat right? Strange for sure. Horizons was obviously a favorite but I was unfortunately only able to ride it once & the memory is hazy now. Even SSE has taken futuristic scenes out to replace with a campy cartoon of our supposed future. I know new tech comes out at alarming rates nowadays but I feel a general lack in forward-thinking at Epcot that used to spark the imagination. Maybe we're too technologically advanced to be impressed by much any more?

Sorry, got off topic there. Again, new countries would be amazing, but there's so much work to do elsewhere in the park. The Captain EO band-aid will soon peel off the Imagination Pavilion & then what?

I think this is the main problem. Because technology advances much more rapidly these days than it did back in the 80s and even somewhat in the 90s, it's hard for a place called 'Future World' to really be able to keep up and always be ahead of the game. Even for Disney the return on investment would likely not justify the continuous expense of changing over attractions and exhibits. Instead they need to aim for making/changing more attractions into more timeless setups that don't predict anything too specific, but still allow the area to be called Future World.

I think your right. There is a new IPad every year and who knows what's next. If Disney were to keep at the same rate as technology they would be refurbishing Future World every six months!

Russia, Russia, Russia. It was the birthplace of the roller coaster, so hello E-ticket! Combined with awesomely cool architecture and a vodka bar, I don't see how it could lose!
