Really? I've had no noise problems on the 7th floor. But i'm also usually on the giftshop side of things.

Only noise was the sound of the foghorns for the boats and the train whistle in the morning.

The last time I stayed in a floor lower than the 14th (Which was 2002) Around 7 or 8am all we heard were the MK Busses, and trucks etc....

More fun math!

Instead of the Tower Lake View 1 BR (sleeps 6) you can get 13 rooms at an All Star (that would sleep 52).

Edit to add: Does that mean people in the Tower 1 BR are 8x more valuable than people at an All Star? Makes the mind boggle...

but spending all of that money on a view just seems crazy.

I have been saying that for years, and regularlay get flamed.

There is NOTHING I want to see from my hotel room that is worth $150 ($30 per night x 5 nights).

On the other hand, I cannot fault WDW for charging more for the view. It's Business 101--charge what the traffic will bear. There are people willing to pay for it, so they are wise to offer a "guaranteed" MK view for a price.

Honestly, I would NOT want to be a Contemporary front desk CM trying to pacify a family furious that they got a lake view (not MK) tower room. This way, the CM can honestly say, "Those rooms are available for $x more." At that point, Irate Family can decide if the view is really worth it for them and pay up or shut up.

no kidding -- i got value rates of 45 bucks last year and stayed for 10 nights for just over 500 dollars -- it was like buy the room get the tickets free! We then went on to spend an extra $2000 more on our spending money budget -- me thinks disney wins (especially since we only planned to stay for 3 nights)

Thanks for the list. I am actually glad they did this. When I went to the Polynesian a couple weeks ago I desperately wanted a good MK view and would have paid extra for it, but since I couldn't be guaranteed a view of MK I stressed over it and had bad dreams about it for months before the trip. Had I just been able to pay extra to guarantee the view I would have been way happier. We ended up switching rooms twice after we checked in to get a good view. I would definitely be one of those who would be tempted to pay the extra for the MK view.

I just tried to look up AP rates for Jan-Feb and it still had only 3 categories listed.

AP rates...
Garden Wing Room - $245.30
Junior Suite - $278.75
Tower Room - $317.78

Those are some pretty good rates compared to that list posted.

When we got married at the Wilderness Lodge. We arrived the day before and we had just reserved a standard view room. We ended up getting conceirge 7th floor with a MK view. (no extra charge) Not sure how the view would be now from that room as their were trees, since it was a maintenance parking lot back there. But that night we stood on the balcony and watched fireworks from the MVMCP

Rooms are worth what people will pay for them. As I have said before, hotels price on demand, not product.

Panoramic view from Contemporary room 4741 (11th floor) in May 2004.

It's an amazing view, yes, and we really enjoy the Contemporary. But at the new prices, we're going to have to split our stays again like we did this May (3 nights at the Contemporary and 7 at French Quarter). I remember the good old days of spending 10 nights at the Contemporary.

At what point will people just stop paying these prices? I realize that they can keep upping the rates and if people want to stay there, they will pay. But at some point, it has to get to be too much. How full will the hotel be when they're charging $500/night for MK view?

Wow - I need to start saving my pennies. Personally I think the Poly view of MK is a little better because there's no ugly parking lots in the foreground and Wishes "lines up" correctly with the castle, but nonetheless, it looks like the Contemporary views are still pretty darn cool!

i do think it's kind of a ridiculous (sp?) amount to pay, but we are often convinced to pay it. why some ask? cause we like the convience of the monrail and going out on the balcony and seeing that awsome view, but that's just us.
