99% of the time it’s the other way around. Since the changes were made I have only seen 1 bearded man in a dress, it’s mostly women going for the mens costumes

A sign of comfort more than catering to self expression I am sure in many cases as well.

I have seen three men in the female cast version of the costume in my last trip to MK alone. It is probably still 1 percent or to be honest less, but jarring theme is still jarring theme.

Yup, most of the time it’s Mansion CMs, I’m guessing because butlers have a coat they can shed in hot weather but maids have no way to make their dress more lightweight.

That is interesting because the ones noticed the most by my family and my sister's is the guy who wears a maid outfit. But he is the only consistent wardrobe bend I see.

Cast Members who identify as a different gender have been accommodated for many years (if not a decade or more). The only real change to the policy here was eliminating the need/expectation that a CM who wanted to identify differently would need to go through a lengthy process of interviewing with their management team and HR to "codify" the accommodation with costuming.

I bolded this part of your response because it fascinates me that people gloss over this. “Proper” women, relatively recently and in a north to south spread in the US, wouldn’t have been caught in public wearing pants or trousers. Even my wife’s great aunt, who just passed within the decade, never wore denim. Appropriate fashion is wildly subjective.

As if bearded scotsmen in kilts (which are shaped an awful lot like skirts), or Norse Vikings in similar garb wasn't/isn’t a thing. The shape of clothing and which gender belongs in that shape has been fluid and culturally appointed since forever.

Of all the things to worry about, even in the “stress” of a WDW vacation, this really belongs below the bottom of the list.

Careful, you're gonna fall and hurt yourself on that slippery slope of yours.
I don't think you understand the concept of slippery slope fallacy. The evidence has shown that things have gone further and there is not necessarily a fear of it. slippery slope fallacy is typically before something is implemented. I am not personally bothered by the changes but it is funny that a top and bottom may clash when the goal on repeat here anyway supposedly is self expressions.

If you are finding issue by color clashing or mixing and matching within the same thematic for placemaking but not obvious casting choices for gender, you are not reasonable.
Why can't both be allowed?

who is worrying?
Some have expressed worry over how to explain costume identity mismatches to their children, or equated a bearded CM in a skirt/dress to the downfall of all that is right and pure in the world. Maybe not all posters who don’t agree with these changes (which happened over a year ago), but the tone of worry has been expressed.

it’s pretty weird seeing a guy in a dress directing me at Indiana Jones but didn’t really bother me much. Does it worry me? No. Is it weird? Yes. Lol

In the Parks
No
I think I noticed one CM who appeared to be male in a skirt at the Emporium last trip. Other than that nothing stood out.

If you can’t talk to your kids about it without something like “some people just make different choices and that’s okay” you don’t need to have kids. And I say that as a white conservative male.

Not gonna lie, on my visit to the parks last week, I saw more sloppy uniforms and unkempt employees than I think I ever have before….and this was NOT something I went looking for. Really kind of surprised me.

Then again, I saw a lot of popcorn and trash on the ground too…something I never really saw much of before.

The parks are in decline.

Popcorn? Are the ducks and squirrels on strike?

Thank goodness parks don't sell chewing gum. At Great Adventure back in the day there was a gum tree when we visited . Thousands of used chewing gum in different colors were plastered on the tree by park guests.
