Yeah, we've read the guidelines.

Glad you've finally gotten around to reading them as compared to your previous uninformed ranting.

Judgement calls have to be made. Just like they've always been with the previous guidelines.

If you don't understand how to stay within the guidelines, don't work for Disney.
So is it now "informed ranting" ?

I'm not being paid for this. I can read, or not read, anything I'd like.

A new Disney employee at a training class has to read this stuff though. Or at least pretend to read it.

If you don't understand how to stay within the guidelines, don't work for Disney.

The "guidelines" are vague and a mile wide. They are extremely detailed when it comes to stuff like sunglasses, but then incredibly brief and very vague when it comes to makeup.

My God, they've written an entire novel about sunglasses and frames.

EYEWEAR
Sunglasses are a block to interpersonal communication with Guests and should be avoided if possible. Only sunglasses that allow your eyes to be seen are permitted. No mirrored or dark, opaque lenses are allowed.
Sunglasses are not to be worn at night, in dark areas or indoors. Cast Members should remove sunglasses when engaging in extended interactions with a Guest.
The frames and lenses of both prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses should be solid or tortoiseshell in color with only minimal contrasting logos. Eyeglasses and sunglasses should not detract from the costume or contradict the theme of the show.
If colored or tinted contact lenses are worn, the resulting eye color must be natural looking. Decorated lenses are not permitted.
A discreet cord or chain is approved in a solid, neutral color, free from ornamentation and decoration.

They really seem to care about sunglasses. That appears to be the key to great customer service for them.

But then, when it comes to grown men wearing a smokey eye and a peachy lip gloss for their Frontierland shift, no one cares. 🤣

MAKEUP
If makeup is worn, it should be applied in a blended manner and in neutral colors.

Are not all cast members required to pass 'examination as to appearance, and uniform inspection' prior to going 'on stage'? If this is the case there will be only a few 'inspectors' and they would certainly know and provide uniform guidelines eliminating the idea that what one 'manager' sees may differ from other 'managers'. This appears to be much ado about nothing.

No there’s no ‘examination’ or ‘uniform inspection’. It’s generally down to managers and coordinators to interpret and apply the rules.

A transgender woman wearing a dress is not the same as a man wearing a dress. Don’t confuse the two. And, to your point, I don’t think we will see a lot of male identified people that choose this. But it is available now for everyone.
I am sorry but transgenders like Rachel Levine look awful in a dress so it is easy to confuse the two. I would much rather see a fabulous drag queen who is a really man dressed as woman who actually put in the time and the effort to try and pass as one.

Great point! I don't understand that either.

WDI and Disney has made huge investments for decades to make these rides and restaurants and lands look believable and immersive. Then you put a 1770's Colonial gentleman on stage in spangly earrings and blue nail polish and BOOM! you are back in the world you live in instead of a world made by Disney.

“I don't want the public to see the world they live in while they're in the Park. I want them to feel they're in another world.” -Walt Disney, 1960
That same colonial gentleman has been wearing reeboks and ray bans and stitch pins on his nightmare before christmas lanyard for 20 years. You don't see much of that in the 18th century fashion plates either. So has the story been compromised since the 90's? You know what you do see in 18th century fashion plates... men wearing earings... and heels.

Traditionally, Jewish CM's were not allowed to wear Yarmulke's at work and Catholics weren't allowed to show an ash mark on their forehead when going to work on Ash Wednesday.

That seems to be over. They used the Muslim woman and the Sikh man in the photos. But I see no reason why Jews can't wear Yarmulke's or Catholics can't wear ash marks on their foreheads while working at Space Mountain or The Emporium or The Blue Bayou. That all seems to be fairly reasonable.

The rules on tats seem a bit vague. Instead of listing sizes in inches, they make it based on the employees hand size. That's odd. Who decides what is an "inappropriate image"??? I assume a naked lady tat is not okay, but if the lady is wearing a bikini is that okay? People at Blizzard Beach and at Disney hotel pools wear bikinis, so why isn't this okay on the forearm of the busboy clearing your table at the Plaza Inn? If the busboy with this tat is comfortable, why do the paying customers get to tell him he shouldn't be comfortable?

That is one hairy lady! LOL

Tattoos that depict nudity, offensive or inappropriate language or images, or violate Company policies (including policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, age, disability or any other protected category) are not permitted.

No skull.

And your concern for small-handed CMs (whose small hands will usually be in proportion to a small body on which tattoos will be proportionally small) is just so heart-warming and totally sincere.

Now that you've show you've read the guidelines, it's clear now that you're just purposefully misconstruing them.
Why wouldn't a skull tattoo be appropriate in PotC?
After all...

Not sure if you are aware but increasing the font size doesn’t make it any less vague.

I wasn’t aware a skull was considered offensive? Is it? Is a cross? What if it’s a cross with Jesus on it? How about the Star of David? Flying Spaghetti Monster? The words “Jesus Saves”? The words “religion is lie”?

This is nothing but a ploy by senior management to expand the labor pool and pay lower wages to that pool of employees.

This 'update' has been a long time requested by CMs.

When the latest wave of BLM happened, the one that precipitated the retheme of Splash Mountain, was about the same time that the Fifth Key of Inclusion was announced.

Then there are Disney's own video and photographic documentation of the meetings that took place to inform this new policy.

So... this update to the guidelines happened before the current employment crunch in which Disney is finding that many of the furloughed CMs are not coming back.

Certainly, the more restrictive guidelines were problematic for some hires; but the comprehensive update was happening before the current employment crunch.

Also, the minimum wage for DL employees is $15. And by this October, the union employees at WDW will also have a $15 minimum (which is 175% of FL minimum wage and 207% of Federal minimum wage). I'm sure there may be exceptions to this, such as with college students, but they get their tuition paid for by Disney.

While I think Disney should do more to provide a "living wage" to those who necessarily live where the cost of living is relatively high... it's not like the relaxation of dress code is to scrape the bottom of the $8/hr barrel.
