New caramel shop in Germany pavilion

You are right... While Storck is a German company which makes rather nice candy, caramel isn't particular German at all! Of all the products listed that are going to be sold (caramel popcorn, caramel apples, caramel-covered strawberries and marshmallows, gourmet caramels, cookies, brownies, fudge and cupcakes), the only thing you can buy regularly in Germany are cookies! And possibly our version of caramel apples which are more sugar glazed with a red glaze than true caramel. Most of the sweets listed will be identified by most Germans as truly American sweets (with the exception of fudge which we think is British - a country also known for toffee here in Germany which is a kind of caramel, isn't it?)!!

And even the name is not really German either: "Karamelle-Küche" isn't proper German. It either has to be Karamellküche (meaning a kitchen producing caramel in general) oder Karamellenküche (a kitchen producing caramel candies). The dash is all wrong, maybe Karamellen Küche could be acceptable... :brick:

I have always been rather impressed that the WS is much more authentic than people here in Germany think anything an American company like Disney could ever produce. But this is just that fake kind of authenticity which I always kept telling folks here that there wouldn't be... I am really sad about that.

Fake authenticity. My friend from Kentucky went to London and his friend said "Oh look Bryan they have Kentucky-style mint mushy peas." He said "We don't eat mint mushy peas in America, let alone Kentucky style!". She was shocked.

So, I did some research on caramel and from what I find is that it is an American invention! Go us. The british did have toffee, but not soft toffee. After the advent of caramel made its way overseas it was a big hit in Britain and they began producing soft toffee.

We might as well have a sauer kraut in a cup stand in the American pavilion.

Were you under the impression that I was insulting a nationality? Were you insinuating that I am not a proud citizen of the USA? Caramel is neither here nor there, although it soon will be there apparently. I doubt anyone's actual intelligence came into play at any point in my post. Perhaps you should have put on your sarcasm glasses and then read my post.

I liked the post.

Some overly emotional people get all upset if you use the phrase "stupid Americans".

Iv'e never understood it. There aer stupid people in America, but as soon as you say "stupid Americans" everyone gets all crazy and throws their "patriot" bit like Toby Keith.

Because there just isn't enough candy and food at Sussigkeiten? That's right, Disney, take away the artistic portion of the pavilion and replace it with food because that's all stupid Americans can relate to. :(

It is evident that I mistakenly saw your first post as an affront against Americans and their intelligence, rather than a simple remark against Disney's current trend in marketing. You are correct in the fact that I did not properly discern your sarcasm, and for that I sincerely apologize. I humbly ask that you please forgive me.

We usually walk right through the front shop anyways so I will not miss it. I'm sure Disney will make more money with a caramel shop...I for one will definitely want to have a caramel-covered strawberry. :)

I think you will find like most things, it was invented by a Jock, or at least his someone he knew.

Yeah, but Pumbas, didn't you guys rip off the whole kilt thing from the Romans? :)

And agony bags from the Arabs. Besides Tartan as we know it was a Victorian creation. But you have to admit that the tartan and shortbread image is a hell of a successful marketing campaign.

Certainly more appealing that deep fried mars bars, street fights and low life expectancy.

I'll take the Mars bars thank you, right after I polish off the haggis...

You also gave us (for better or worse) golf, and Ian Rankin. Not a bad day's work....

OK. I am from New Jersey. We dont have mushy peas of any variety here. However I do know what mushy peas are, and I have had them. But what the HELL are MINT mushy peas.

We have an "Cup it" stand in one of our malls.

I don't like this idea. I can get caramel at the grocery store, but the cool glass items at Germany in EPCOT...not so much.

If they keep adding food based attractions to Epcot, they're going to have to install larger exit gates. By the time I have one of the new burritos, top it off with a caramel dessert, and then wash it all down with a big slice of brick oven pizza, I won't be able to leave the park. :slurp:
