New Books: Imagineering Legends | Disney History

Some new books have popped up in my Amazon recommendations. Looks like good stuff on tap here, folks...

First up, Amazon shows this book is headed for a March 2006 release...

Jeff Kurtti is the author of Since The World Began, so that should give us an idea of the type of book to expect. The suggested reading level on Amazon shows ages 4-8, but given its 160-page length and the general design/wording of the cover, I tend to believe that it's geared toward adults, but so little is known about it (due to far away release date) that Amazon is just figuring that Disney=Kids.

Eve Zibart runs with the "Unofficial Guide" crowd (specificlly, author of Unofficial Guide to WDW For Grownups and Inside Disney: The Unofficial Story of WDW and the Man Behind The Mouse). Given that, this may or may not be the most Pro-Disney book out there, but history is history.

The Imagineering book looks cool, I wonder if it will be very different from the Walt Disney Igamineering book that has been out for some time now.

The title "Legends of Imagineering" leads me to believe (pure speculation here) that a significant portion of the book will be dedicated to profiling the "Disney Legends" who were imagineers. I'm guessing John Hench, Marty Sklar, Yale Gracey, etc. It will probably profile how each contributed to the concept of a Disney Park. Again, just a guess, but that's what I'm gathering by judging the book by its cover :D

The Imagineering book looks to be good, might have to splurge for that.

However, I don't know if anyone's read Eve Zibert's "Inside Disney" book, but it was awful. Very poorly researched (i.e. full of factual errors) and also not compiled very well. Just my opinion obviously, but I'd be skeptical about this latest one.

A very nice book. It is designed to be taken with you into the parks, but you can enjoy it just as well at home. It includes plenty of "inside info" (though you may already know a lot of it). I like it. Basically, each attraction gets its own page, including some concept sketches, etc.

That imagineering book looks like it might have to make its way in to my collection. Also a recommendation if anyone is looking...The Imagineering Field Guide to the MK is very good.

Thanks, brkgnews, for this advance on these new books. I am adding them to my wishlist!

The last issue :cry: of Disney Mag contained an ad for the Inagineers Field Guide to the Magic Kingdom at WDW, and said it could be found at bookstores everywhere. However, I have yet to find it on a shelf, and planned on ordering it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Has anyone else found it in a bookstore?

I haven't found it in stores just yet. It was supposed to have been released back on June 1st, but it was delayed until the first of September (my thought was that maybe they delayed it until Pooh's Playful Spot opened -- it includes a full-page write-up on it). It's starting to trickle into the supply now. Amazon has plenty.

I actually just found this at my local Border's yesterday. $9.95.

Now, do I read it now, or wait until my honeymoon at WDW in Dec and read about stuff while standing in the neverending lines? :brick: By the way, does anyone know if they are coming out with ones for the other parks? I know the computer at Border's said first in the series, but I didn't know if that was set in stone. Too bad they won't be out in time for me...

I'm sure that all depends on how well the first one does. However, since I'm sure they'll sell it inside the parks, I imagine it will do quite well. I'm figuring (just a guess here -- no real facts behind it) that they would do new ones in order of park openings, meaning next is EPCOT, followed by D-MGM, then AK. I'm waiting with baited breath!

I picked up my copy of the Imagineering Field Guide from Barnes and Noble last Friday. I had called them about 2 weeks ago to see if they had it in stock (it was on their website), they had to obtain a copy for me and call me when it arrived. It is a facinating read. I leave for WDW on October 21 and hope to have it read by then, but I'll also bring it with me through the park.

I'm anxious to read the editions for the other 3 parks. Hopefully, those will come out in a more timely fashion then this one did. (It took an additional 3 months to arrive in bookstores from when it was originally set to be released.)

I was at the MK last week during extra magic evening and I thought I'd look through the Emporium on the way out and right there was the Imagineers Field Guide to the MK! I never saw the book anywhere else in WDW not even World of Disney had it!!
