New Apple tech will allow purchase of park tickets on Itunes?

I like to swim with my Key To The World in my pocket. I do not like to swim with my iPhone in my pocket.

You won't have to worry then since you won't be swimming and entering a park at the same time

Honestly, I love this idea. It's hard to go off of just patents, and it doesn't always mean it'll actually happen. I'd be better to see an example of this on a user based end, not the technical end.

They may be looking at what DL does... only also able to use a mobile device.

DL uses barcodes instead of a mag strip for information, people can print up their confirm and go to the turnsyle wich would then print a real ticket for them to use for the rest of their stay. This could be tested at DL easily, and if successful upgrade WDW's tech to use more barcode scanners (some turnstyles already have a barcode reader) as well as add the tech to print a standard ticket right there.

At airports you can already have your iphone scanned for boarding passes. So this is a logical move.
It slows down everything though.

It is an enigma that anyone would want to jump on this technology so soon.

Tickets through iTunes would be fine though.

They should just print you a Tee shirt with the needed bar-codes when you purchase your tickets airline or park and send them with you DME kit.

I may be mistaken... but at this time I do not believe scanners can read a screen (a picture? yes. a digital screen? no.). So scanning your phone would add a bit of technology to be figured out.

Nah, they can do it. I've actually had it done in stores before, and most standard cash register bar code scanners are up to the task.

I just question the technology implementation. It will cause massive backups and problems. RFID bracelets and cards that don't even need to be seen are how park admission should really be handled. Easy, cheap, and has a shot at speeding up the process rather than slowing it down. And it could be easily paired with the biometric system already in place at Disney.

The smartphone, although VERY popular (I have two), are very far from universal. And we are talking iphone only, which is only about 50% of those people who use smartphones. I know it seems massive, but you are really talking about a very small segment of the population.

At the current smartphone availability and usage, not to mention overseas visitors who may not have access in the US (or the rights to buy outside the US, as we have seen with apps in the app store), this would just be a gimmick.

Everyone who thinks this will cause massive backups, I don't think that this would replace the current ticketing system but work with it.

Regardless, I see nothing but problems with a barcode system on phones. The general public can't even handle the fingerprint checker at the front gate. Now allow them to do it through their iPhone? HA!

Sorry, but most people who have the iPhone get it becuase "they can", not becuase their tech marvels. How would you like to be in line behind the yuppie mom of 4 demon children while she tries to figure out how to get the barcodes to display on her iPhone? Do you REALLY think she has that on the screen BEFORE she gets up to the line? Remember now, she would have to go through the bag check first. So she would have to get the phone ready AFTER the bag check and BEFORE she got to the turnstile.

Good idea, but like most technology, as soon as you add in the average human intelligence, you got some real problems. As George Carlin brilliantly pointed out: "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

They wouldn't be getting rid of the old system you would be able to use both. SO only people that know how to use it will even know about it.

Do only the people who know how to use in get into the self check out line at Home Depot or Wal-Mart? Do only the people who know how to use it use an ATM? Do only the people who know how to use it use the express kiosk at the car rental counter?

You are going to have a choice most likley people like 98% of the people in this thread that are scared of technology can use the old system. It is like getting your ticket at the movies on fandango it won't slow anything up.

This is the way everything in the world will me in the not to distant future people will just have to accept it.

HA!!

Thats like saying only people who know how to drive will be the only people using cars, so don't worry!:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

Like I said, most people that use iPhones are ones that simply have disposable income and want it becuase it's "cool". They will purchase a ticket because its "cool" to do it that way.

Next you can tell me that the iPad is great....even though it doesn't even come with a clock or a calculator. :ROFLOL:

I bought an Iphone because it is an Ipod and a phone I only have to carry 1 item instead of 2.

No I see no reason to get the I-pad.

I do not think anyone in this thread is afraid of technology. You however are trying to shoehorn a technology into an area that does not need it. Tech for tech sakes is rarely a good idea.

Paper and tickets made of them and plastic will be obsolete in 20 years anyway it is not a question of if but when.

People said that about DM printers as well yet they are still around. Not because they are great printers but because they are rock solid technology that fits a need quite well. You will not see hard tickets replaced until something else can do the same thing for less money.

And this is based on what ?

Really, I work in a tech environment. When tech is usefull (or at least interesting) I am the first to use it. But I also understand that sometimes the 'old' way is cheaper, easier, or both.
