What ever all I am going to say is get used to it because it is your future.
I am going to stick a bookmark in this and come back to it in a few years.
It may be around in some other shape or form - perhaps RFID, if they can work out the personal security/privacy bugaboos. But in a few years when iPhones are no more and the next big thing is on the way this should be an interesting post.
I can't tell you the amount of tech - both stuff the average consumer would use, and stuff that nobody outside of somone who works in telecomm would recognize - was touted as the wave of the future that we better get used to, and it then died on the vine and was replaced by something that was either different or improved.
Now I am going to go get a snack out of my fridge that scans the barcodes for me and cook it in my web enabled oven. Then I am going to go watch a laser disc.
