They completely re-animated them from the ground up. The actions that take place are mostly the same (there's a few slight differences) but the updated CGI makes them look much much more realistic. They didn't just take the 1999 CGI and upgrade it to 4k high def, they completely re-animated it. You also remain at each sequence just slightly longer.

That's not even taking into effect the fact that sound system was completely upgraded and is like night and day compared to the previous incarnation of the ride.

Wow...I never knew that. Thanks for the info!
So are they less "cartoony?" I think it would be cool if they used live actors.

Is Spider-Man the same scenes just higher definition?
...Or are they completely different visuals?

Same storyline, but the CGI videos were redone, rendered from scratch to take advantage of the new HD Projectors. They also added/updated some of the physical scenes along the ride.

The old ride was great, but I think this new upgrade puts it back ontop (or close to) as being one of the best modern rides of all time.

The new version looks more cartoony. There's a Youtube video doing a comparison of both versions. The clarity of the new visuals is amazing, though. At times it's hard to tell where the screen ends and the physical sets begin.

Good points.

It's also kind of sad to note that two of the newest things in DHS are closing already. LMA will likely close in 2013 (if Cars Land is approved of course) , and Idol is closing in 2014 ( the contract with 19 entertainment terminates in 2014, and Disney will not renew from what i understand ).

If all this occurs, the last standing major attraction for DHS would be what, Rockin' Rollar Coaster?
The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror! The single greatest ride in the world. And Toy Story Midway Mania and Star Tours.

Imagine if IOA were to get 1 or 2 more Es after Potter 2....

If that were to happen before WDW puts in a single thing more...just start counting to 10 because the KO is coming.

I've heard the "People don't go to WDW for the thrills, they go for the magic."
I understand that...but the real magic is that they can still get millions of people to visit, charge them all more, and not add anything truly worthwhile.

The cool thing is that Comcast didn't want to wait that long for a new major attraction to open, so they fast tracked Transformers to open summer 2013.

So if we're keeping score, I think the Major (E-Ticket) Attractions opening between 2010-2015 are:
IOA: Potter ( 1 E Ticket + Land )
IOA: HD Spiderman ( Upgrade )
Universal: Transformers ( E Ticket )
Universal: Potter ( 1 E Ticket + Land )
DHS: Star Wars ( Upgrade )
Epcot: Test Track ( Upgrade )
Animal Kingdom: Avatar (Maybe in 2015...)

Universal Orlando: 3 new E Tickets
Disney World: 0 new E Tickets.

Would you count the SWa7D coaster as an E-Ticket?
You're forgetting Hogwarts Express I'd say 4 E-tickets, a B/C-ticket (I believe there's another smaller attraction going to the London side of Harry Potter), and an upgrade compared to 3 upgrades (Star Tours, Test Track, Dumbo), and two D-tickets

Wow! All that work going in at the Universal Orlando Resort sure is looking exciting. Transformers from the air shows how complete that building is from the outer layers already and how far Potter's first big show building is really coming along with another building near the future Hogwarts Express train area for Diagon Alley's Studio side station.

Also, the NextGen 1.5 billion dollar progress from the skies of WDW looks inredible!

The last time I was in the parks (which was this past Thursday), nothing looked "cheap" or "junky". In fact everything looked top-notch. Fresh coats of paint, etc. Apart from the construction walls around Transformers, Potter, and the as-yet unannounced Springfield area, the park looked great. Islands was in just as good shape.

I agree. When I visited Uni at the beginning of December, I was very impressed. It looked amazing.

There is a plan for a HP 3.0 taking over the rest of lost continent that I have heard about. Is that what your referring to?

Though I love what they've done with Potter, I sure hope that doesn't happen. Two full lands in two parks is plenty. I'd rather see Lord of the Rings or anything else placed there over More Potter.

I'd love to see a new show in the Sinbad space and an indoor coaster in PF, called PF.;)

Agreed, but how does UO not expand after HP 2.0 if it's just as much of a success as 1.0?

you can say that again - I was under the impression that the additional attraction was a smaller attraction included in the current additions.
