Someone showed me this link to the website where people can vote on what should be considered the New 7 Wonders of the World. Since the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World are almost all gone(The Pyramids of Giza being the only one still standing), the organization that decides such things is holding a worldwide vote. You too, can vote for which manmade structures should be considered "Wonders."

i dont get it

There are the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World:

1. The Pyramids of Giza
2. The Colossus of Rhodes
3. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
4. The Great Library of Alexandria
5. The Lighthouse of Alexandria
6. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
7. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

Of those Seven Ancient Wonders, on the Pyramids of Giza still stand. It was decided that there should be a new list of Seven Wonders. Any structure built before the year 2000 is eligible. If you go to the site in the first post, that is where they are holding the worldwide vote. Anyone can vote for what should make the new list of Seven Wonders. On the site are 21 candidates from all over the world, complete with a brief overview of its history. When you are ready to vote, you simply register with the site and you will get a link e-mailed to you where you can cast your votes. On July 7, 2007, the new list of Seven Wonders will be revealed at an event being held in Portugal.

One of the new Seven Wonders of the World should be the Newport Tower.
That and CN Tower.
While we're at it, the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Taipei 101?
The Three Gorges Dam?
Can't forget the Acropolis and its Parthenon...
Nor the Roman Forum and its Colosseum and Pantheon.
What about Stone Town, Zanzibar?
Mecca and its Ka'aba...

...

And for good measure, Spaceship Earth!

It strikes me that I've listed more than 7... :lookaroun

My 7 would be:

The Parthenon, Greece
The Great Wall of China
The Pyramids of Giza
The Colusseum, Italy
Taj Mahal, India
Stonehenge, United Kingdom
Kremlin, Russia

(Why not the Panama Canal, the Hoover Dam, or the St. Louis Arch?)

They should space the 7 Wonders out.

One for each of the 7 continents.

Antarctica can be replaced by, say, the Middle East.

North America: Teotihuacan, Mexico (no, it's not on the list, but perhaps as impressive as Chichen Itza)

South America: Macchu Picchu

Europe: Colisseum of Rome

Africa: Great Pyramid at Giza

Middle East: Haya Sophia, Istanbul (a city which straddles the European/Asian traditional boundary)

Asia: Great Wall, hands down

Australia: Since this list catalogues man-made wonders, the Sydney Opera House. Otherwise I'd say Uluru.

It's still Constantinople in my mind

(starts singing: )

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way...
