Never Built Disney Attractions?

Well, there are many of those that are well documented, such as WestCOT, Disney's America, the Asian and Ventian Resorts, etc., but there are quite a few there that I have never heard of.

At DLR there is Rocket Rods which replaced the people mover. You'd see them test it and test it year after year but it never really worked and was scratched. I haven't been down there in about 5 years so I don't have an update for you other than that.

Wow, that is an exhaustive list! Imagineers sure are busy people, coming up with all that they do. Most of those are at least vaguely familiar to me, but some I had never heard of before.

Although I am sure that there are hundreds if not more ideas that are locked up in secret archives and will remain so for a long time. Who here wouldn't love to get a peek at those! TBQH - I think some of the unrealized ideas sound like they they were killed for good reason. (David Copperfield's Magic Underground just doesn't do it for me.)

But who knows what we may see - as they say, no good idea is ever dead at WDI!

Rocket Rods was actually open to guests for about a year or so. Then, it closed for a "refurbishment," but never got around to re-opening. It's very, very dead now.

It was open, and it was pretty terrible. I found the queue more interesting than the ride itself, and that's only because they chose to kill off Circle-Vision as well to act as its waiting area. Not only did it have vehicles from past attractions in the old Ciricle-Vision holding area (including a Peoplemover), but reproductions of the plans for the vehicles, and video clips taken from such Wonderful World of Color/Disney episodes as "Magic Highway, USA." Then, the main Circle-Vision room showed a 360 video about 50 years of Disney transportation, including scenes from past Circle-Vision shows, clips from WWC episodes, and narrations by Walt himself.
The ride, itself, meanwhile, paled in comparison. It was over in about 3 minutes and really just zipped you around Tomorrowland so quickly you didn't have much of an opportunity to appreciate the scenery you were passing. It lacked narration, as well, and instead made screeching and whining noises that didn't befit a supposed "transportation of the future." To try and add interest, cheesy things like strobe lights, mirrors, and air guns were installed along the way. It was definitely not worth the wait. Many would disagree with me, I'm sure, but it just wasn't a worthwhile replacement/upgrade to The Peoplemover. Ultimately what killed it was that the cars couldn't take the stress of turning unbanked corners (they weren't willing to spend the money when it was built to add banked turns), and being forced to slow down to such a point that it defeated the purpose of calling it a thrill ride.
Personally, I keep hoping a Peoplemover 2.0 will soon show up. No, it's not a thrill ride, but it always felt thousands of times more futuristic than those unnecessarily loud Rocket Rods.

I can vouch for all the WDW bits. It isn`t an exhaustive list by any means but what is listed has been Imagineered over the past 40 years.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
The nice thing about the Disney Wiki is that if anyone ever puts any false information up there, there are nuts like use who will find it and clean it up.

Ya ,the ________ Tracy EMV (enhanced motion vehicle) ride with those guns (attached on the vehicle for guests) and gangsters didn't get built because the movie only made $103 million (in 1990 $) and won 3 Academy Awards (and nominated for 4 more).

MGM I think had the best (excluding WRE and Beastly Kingdom) collection of never built attractions. Had they been, I think we would have a very different opinion on that park.

Interesting list.

Although I can't buy the fact that Disney once planned to put a Godzilla ride in Epcot.

Interesting about a Gonzo Pizza Parlor as well. I guess it would have gone where Pizza Planet is now.

It's actually been mentioned several times, usually in Imagineering discussions.. I don't think it ever made it past the blue sky phase, though.

Does anybody remember the Switzerland pavilion art Disney released in the early 90s?
