Need some Help concerning MK Vs. AK

My girlfriend and I are taking a WDW vacation during the dates of Aug 12-15. The debate is whether or not to visit MK or AK. I have been to MK almost 20 times, and never have visited AK before. But I really feel there is a lack of attractions @ AK, and maybe it would be better to visit in 2003. That being said; should we wait another 10-12 months before visiting AK, as maybe there will be added attractions by summer '03. Any feedback will be helpful.

Chances are if you have never gone to AK as of now and MK over 20 times, you like MK a lot. If you haven't gone by now, I'm guessing there is a reason why. My 2 cents is what is another 10-11 months going to hurt?? :animwink: Go for it!

MK all the way!! :D

Not to offend any AK enthusiasts...:lookaroun

I agree!

I say go for MK since you already know what to expect. Animal Kingdom is a great park but I couldn't spend a whole day there. Magic Kingdom has a ton of more rides and I think you'll both enjoy it more.

So my vote goes to MK!:D
Have Fun!

I say go to AK.........its a very cool park plus neither of you have ever been there so you can both experience it for the first time together

MK all the way.

At this point, AK is great to go to when you are going to multiple parks, but when you can only choose one, MK is a much better value for the money. If AK had about twice as many attractions then I would say go to AK, but for now it can wait a little longer. Especially if you can go in another 11 months.

I agree that Animal Kingdom can wait. also, who knows if any current attractions will be closed for your next visit. Several attractions could be gone , you never know. and Animal Kingdom can only get better(hopefully) over time, so I'd go with Magic Kingdom. I've been to wdw 3 times since AK opened, and i haven't been there yet. It just doesn't justify me wasting a day on my park hopper to go there. Down the line, i'm sure i'll go there, but not yet.

MK - it all started here, you know what to expect, but theres bound to be something new, the parades etc, etc.
AK - A little disappointing, won't take all day, no really good rides, but you've never seen it. It has to be visited............
Go for AK.

We just returned from 5 days at WDW. We hit eack park. And if i had to eliminate a park it would have been AK. It was very dissapointing. Although it had a great selection of food.

I don't care what anyone says. ITIZAZU.

I say go to Animal Kingdom first thing in the morning when it opens and do what you want to do there and then head to the Magic Kingdom. I have always done this when I've visited AK and I am usually done within two hours, because there is a LACK of attractions at the AK.

Go with MK it is by far a better park we went to AK last time we went and it was almost a waste of a day because of the lack of attractions and all the walking.

Here's my two cents, and it is basically an agreement with some previous statements.

AK just had a recent addition, albeit pretty crappy, but it's worth checking out. If you've never done it, why not have that frist experience with someone special. It would give you something in common to talk about to all your friends. Beyond that, here's where park hoppers come in... Go to AK in the morning, and hit MK in the evening for the parades and fireworks.

have a great trip. You won't be disappointed in the least. AK is great the first 2 or 3 times you visit, but after that, it gets pretty stagnant.

MK definitely because it's a full day and if you can only go to one that's a better choice. If you really like animals - I might head to the AK but it's only going to get bigger and better so maybe it's worth the wait!

to visit AK or MK

AK is my favor park, because if different then the other parks, and I dessagre with the lack off atracctions, but I sugest you go to MK and try AK at another time of the year because the time you are going is too HOT, I done that before, but this time I whent in May and it was better.

I'm not a big fan of AK. I went shortly after it opened & then I recently went again for a half day. Both times, I was disappointed & felt like I hadn't really done much that day. While MK may be nothing new to you, there is still so much more to do & see there. I'm putting off another AK visit for quite some time & don't mind it one bit. As said before, it's ok if you're going to be there 4+ days & see everything, but for a short trip where everything can't be done, don't feel a need to squeeze in AK.

I noticed on the original post that you're planning a multi-day stay at WDW. I'd say try it during a morning. The park tends to open earlier than the three others, so if you can slog out of bed to get there at opening, you might find yourself having a great time.

Do know that for some strange reason, it seems way hotter at this park than at the other three, so you might want to cut out by mid-day anyway.

Dinosaur is a cool ride, especially if you haven't been on it before. Be sure to pay attention to the pre-show. It helps add to the fun.

Primeval Whirl didn't quite operate correctly for us, but it looks like its a blast if the cars actually spin.

If you like shows, Lion King is the best in all of WDW. The afternoon parade for the 100 Years celebration is quite excellent, too.

And you have to do the Safari ride.

The zoo portions are pretty cool if you take the time to give them a look. And the Bugs Life 3-D is a hoot (as good as the other 3-D attractions in WDW). And Kali River Rapids is an interesting Disney spin on a rapids ride.

Most popular attractions have FAST PASS. Use them and then take the time to wander around or check out a show.

Is there enough to do to cover one day? If you really meander and check out all the detail, maybe. But if you can Park Hop, then definately check it out for at least a few hours.

By the way, my family went to AK for the first time this past April and arrived not expecting much. When we left, we were greatly impressed. But we weren't just ride, ride, ride oriented. And I think that's the key at this park.

ANIMAL WHAT???

DO NOT GO TO THE ANIMAL KINGDOM over the MAGIC KINGDOM!!!

I have to agree with many people on this thread...only go to the ANIMAL KINGDOM if you have a hopper pass and can go someplace else after you've completed the full 2 hours that it takes to get through the whole park. I LOVE THE ANIMAL KINGDOM don't get me wrong...but it's soooo not worth a full ONE DAY PASS.

Animal Kingdom!!!

I would go with Animal Kingdom. When you're on a vacation, the point is to relax, and the point of a good theme park is more than rides. Take time at Animal Kingdom to explore all of the gardens, and trails...we did last time and it took a whole day! I love the Dino-Rama! section, and AK has some of the best rides Disney World has to offer. I would stongly suggest Animal Kingdom over Magic Kingdom. I've been to all four parks many times and Animal Kingdom is my favorite. You never know until you try...

I think whether you go to MK or AK depends on what you are looking for in a park
If you are looking for thrills and rides mostly, go to MK. It is like a fantasy world and there are tons of things keep you occupied.
If you are looking for more quiet and more of a learning experience, with less rider, go to AK.

Its kinda hard to compare AK & MK since they have two seperate themes and things to do

But if had to pick one or the other for one day, it would be MK.
Of course I like every park and try to hit 'em all if time permits!
