Hi everyone! I know everything about WDW it seems except for taking a flight. I know about DME, but I'm wondering what to pack, how to pack ( 2 adults 2 children), and any other bits of advice you may have for flying. June 9-14 is our trip. We usually drive ( 14 hours) but hubby wants to think about flying. We're getting too old for the drive! LOL. My hubby and I haven't flown since 1997 for our honeymoon to Hawaii, so that was pre 9-11! Not sure about the boys and DS gaming devices, and such. Any help is appreciated! Thanks everyone.;)

However you pack, make sure you leave room for the souvenirs you will bring back with you. You don't want to buy an extra suitcase just to get your items home.
This is really good advice as well. Since our luggage flies free, we normally bring an extra (this way all of our luggage is about 30 lbs a piece) and use the *extra* to bring home all of our souveniers

For us, we always pack the real bag, and then a carry on bag, each of us have one. But either myself or the hubs has a suitcase survival one. This consists of a change of clothes, since I usually get cold on the airplane. But its good to have one just in case, because bell services won't always bring your bag to your room right away anyway....and a couple of the essentials. A pair of sneakers, some basics, along with some entertainment for our son...thankfully JetBlue has a tv in the seats, so it helps pass the short two and a half hour flight but the extras just help make the flight, and the way to the hotel that much better.

I know, right?!! LOVE Southwest!! Used to fly out of ACY, since the airport is 7 miles from my house and Spirit was our only option. Even driving to Phila, staying overnight at the Marriot when flying Southwest, we STILL save money!!! Not to mention, Southwest has some of the nicest people on their staff.

How in the world does everyone get cheaper fares with SW over Delta? I can't understand that. I choose the "wanna get away" option and it calculates that price for both the departure and return flights making them always more expensive.

Update: My hubby has not decided whether he wants to fly yet. I am anxious to know, and so are the boys. So... I put on the calendar before the 44 day mark " WILL WE FLY?" so I may change/add to ressies if needed.;)

oh wow pre 9/11, you are in for a rude awakening... What is your home airport? I would definitely fly SW unless you have an airline credit card or sign up for one so you can get free checked bags and some miles and charge the tickets to that card for the free bags to work. I pack all liquids in the checked bags, bagging them in gallon baggies in case of leakage or explosion:eek:. I pack 7 days worth of clothes for a 7-10d trip since they have the laundry facilities at the resorts. But I would pack a minimum of 5 days worth of outfits if staying shorter period. In summer I pack one light jacket or sweatshirt, 2 nice sundresses and shorts and tops and 2 bathing suits. ALWAYS bring 2 bathing suits if possible. I pack too many shoes for all of us and I put them in the carry on. Kiddos have disney themed backpacks they carry their nabi and ipod and nintendo ds in along with a book and paper and pens. They wear their ears...I have a disney purse... so I always switch over to that purse..
Dang now you have me ready to make my packing list!!!!!!!!! When we FLY we all have packs of gum!

lovepooh- is Southwest affiliated w/ Jet Blue or Air Tran? That's the airlines we're looking at. Thanks.
How does everyone know that I'm a large woman! LOL. I hope I fit into 1 seat. When we went to Hawaii, I barely fit, but I was also 50 pounds heavier.:(

You are not large, I fly SW out of Houston and DD1 is a "lane bryant" kind of woman and they don't charge me for an extra seat for her. It is her and 2 kids that sit the 3 seats across no more space is needed they fit fine.

Oh, I think you misunderstood. I probably shouldn't have quoted your comment. I just meant that in general people state the Southwest is cheaper. I was only wondering how they get it cheaper. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong.

I think it might depend on what airport you fly out of. Before the merger with United flying out Continental was normally cheaper more often the SW...since the merger, SW has consistently been cheaper than United...

One random thought... please don't be one of those people who brings the ginormous carry-on suitcases that don't fit/barely fit in the over head bins. They usually make you check the luggage anyways if it's that big. I get trying to save money, but seriously, everyone hates that person who brings the freaking huge bag.

Phew! Having to get there by 4am! Phew!

Nah, 5am, though still early, will do. SDF is a pretty big airport, but we've gotten there at the 2 hour early window before and still sat and waited for 1.5 hours, every time. I am pretty efficient at getting there, checking the bags at the curb, getting to security, and getting to the gate in roughly 30 minutes. October is a pretty slow time for Louisville air travel. I've flown out of SDF during peak times (Christmas) and I'd rather perform surgery on myself with a spork.

We're flying Southwest for the first time. No baggage fees. :D That'll be a nice change for us from Delta.

It depends on your dates and your home airport. I fly out of Providence and SW was always cheapest to MCO (plus they were the only direct flight,) but now that JetBlue flies out of PVD, they seem to be pretty even. Plus SW gives you two bags free.
