Need Opinions-Poly or Yacht? Or Both!

I am taking my daughters (15 & 13) and my mother for a stay in June. I always let them help with the planning(dining and itinerary), and we've stayed at the Poly the last few years. This year I'm going to surprise them with the entire trip. They have no idea we are going in June! They seem bummed out since I've told them we aren't going this year when they get out of school. :ROFLOL:

I'm torn on where I want to stay this trip. Should I stay with tradition (Poly), or take them somewhere new? I've narrowed the choices to 2 resorts. With the 40% off discount, we can stay either Theme Park view at the Poly or Lagoon view Club Level at the Yacht Club for around the same price. I've also thought about a split stay at both.

Need help people.........where would you stay?

My first instinct would be Poly (its always a girls dream to go to Hawaii) However you have stayed there times before, so my question would be do you always hear them talking about how much they love being close to Magic Kingdom and the monorail?

Or do you think they will be fine with being close to EPCOT and DHS?

If you choose Yacht which would be a fun surprise make sure to take full advantage of the Boardwalk because it is awesome!

I stayed at the Yacht Club once, and left after 4 days (for the Poly). I hated it. Granted, our experience was apparently odd, but service was terrible. Also, getting to MK was awful.

I have not stayed at the Poly yet. I am excited to some time. I have stayed at YC and it is a wonderful resort and would stay there again. Its great being able to walk to Epcot and the boat to DHS is great too. However, I would still choose theme park view if it is the same price. I was first going to suggest trying something new and staying at the YC. But after seeing the theme park option, I would choose that.

I've stayed at both and I would definitely pick Yacht Club. The location of the Yacht Club is just amazing.

Like others have said, if you'd rather be close to the Magic Kingdom, then the Poly is never a bad choice, but if you like Epcot then the Yacht Club is the best choice. Walking to Epcot is wonderful and a quick boat trip or walk to DHS is convenient too.

I also prefer the decor of the Yacht Club, it's light and airy as opposed to a little dark at the Polynesian.

What?!?! You mean you aren't going to go with Tracey's "superior" resort?!?!

You & I both know the Poly's Volcano Pool is gonna be packed to the gills because it's kinda small. The Yacht Club's Stormalong Bay will be busy but you'll be able to get in. Your last room at the Poly was a bit of a let-down for y'all. You did say that. So did Mom. It's not just me being negative! Mom & the girls have never stayed club level. That makes the Yacht Club and the club level experience new for them. You know me, I'm gonna talk-up the Yacht Club, if for no other reason, for the awesome Miss Rocky alone! ((I still have her #, BTW)) Think about it. How much WDW time are you going to spend gazing at your theme park view? It's not like you're on the upper floors of the Contemporary & can see much of the inside of the park, right? Yeah, you can see Wishes but we saw Illuminations from our balcony.

Knowing you, I'll vote split stay because you're going to 2nd guess the decision no matter which way you go. A little sister knows entirely too much sometimes.

I would like to leave you with a couple thoughts: 1.) closer proximity to 2 parks vs. 1.....and.....2.) free beer!

Eh, go on a cruise. :ROFLOL:

Yacht Club Lagoon View Club Level all the way!!!!

Poly pool is too small so it's too packed, and the monorail never seems to be as reliable as it used to.

Yacht is great....a perfect summer getaway!

I say split it up. The kids are old enough that the resort change shouldn't be much trouble. When we do split stays, we stay in the monorail resort first and concentrate on mainly MK park during that stay. We also dine at the monorail resorts during that stay. Next we move to an Epcot resort and mainly concentrate on Epcot and HS since they are easy walks back and forth. Personally, we prefer BC over YC, but that's just a personal preference. Our kids are younger, so the BC fits us better (YC is quieter and a bit more upscale).

By splitting it up, you get the best of both worlds in one trip. No worries or hassles getting to a park because you have the ease of the monorail at one resort and then the ease of walking paths at the other resort.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have booked the Yacht Club, but I'm thinking about calling back and changing our last 2 nights to the Poly. Kelly, you know me too well!

Lol! That's what little sisters are for. You just needed a little salt air in your lungs and fishin' for the soul to clarify for ya. Right? The important part is the time you'll have with your girls all to yourself. Hide their cell phone chargers if ya have to. :animwink: Mom's gonna love the Captain's Grill. I'm actually a wee bit sad I'm missing it. Miss y'all lots.
