I Am currently going to Disney August 10-17, I am renting a car. I am paying 600.00 for the car due to underage ( my husband is 24) I am considering just doing ther buses, my husband really wants a car but I would rather spend that 600.00 on Souvenirs, extra food ( after Plan , my husband is 6'7 360 pounds) Or In case we want to have drinks etc etc I Am staying at The Pop, Can any one help me to tell me How bad the busses are? We did busses 1 time in June 2008 from ASSports and It was a mess, Can any one tell me is Pop the same way? And if you were me what would you do??

There is no way I would pay $600 for a rental car for a week. While a car might save you some time here and there, it will not save you $600 worth of time. if you are not going off property you in no way "need" a car so I would stick with DME and the buses. The buses at POP tend to be some of the best on property.

Right. Now, where are you traveling from? Are you driving there or flying in? If you're flying then no, just use DME and then Disney transportation. If you're driving a long way to Disney, then it might not be so bad, because you'll use it to drive down and drive back and just let it sit at the hotel while you use Disney buses.

since Magical Express we have not rented a car. There is no need. Yes occassionally oyu might have to wait 10-15mns for bus, but It could've taken you longer to get to car (esp at MK). For us it's just not worth the extra expense when we never leave property.

My two cents: We drive down and use our own car to get around everywhere on property. When you have a car and are staying on property you get free parking so that's a big plus but we really like the freedom to come and go as we please and not have to wait for a bus. We also are not fond of how the busses are at park closings etc. (sardine cans). Now that said... I don't know that $600 is worth the freedom. If it were your own vehicle yeah but I'd have to say save your money and go with the busses. :)

We stay at POP and I don't think the busses are bad, but my DH does . He hates to wait and we pay whatever the cost for a rental car is to keep him happy. I don't want to listen to him the whole week. We always use Dollar and I check everyday for a cheaper rate, if it is at all , and i mean even cents cheaper I modify my ressie. we always have a minivan.

Silly question? If you really want the car... just make yourself the only driver... at least then you have it. It should only be like $150 without him added on (assuming you are 25). If you're both underage then you're out of luck. I personally don't like being forced to take the buses. On budget.com try this discount code (It's from Mousesavers: Y937800. I get your rental period as $171 for a full-size plus the $27 a day is $189 for a total of: $360... still not $600. Just some thoughts!

We always rent a car, but there's no way I'd do it at the expense of $600! I get a really great discount through my work, so for us, it's worth it. There are so many other things you could do with that money. Unless there is somewhere off-property that you're planning to go, I think I'd just use the bus system!

We would be on the "not" renting side. When we fly, we use DME and Disney transportation for everything. We have had no problems with the bus service (if you don't like the crowds at park closing, wait a bit, and then slowly stroll out of the park until the crowds are gone). I drive all the time at home, and simply want to relax and let someone else do the driving when I'm at WDW. It is much less stressful, plus you get to meet new people every day! Also, if you drive to MK, you won't be able to take advantage of EMH either, and you will have to put up with the monorail or boat to get back to your car. Just something to think about.

agree with everyone else... $600 seems a little much... as for the busses in the evening, i've found that if you hang out in the parks for a little while after the mass of people leave then the busses aren't as crowded.. plus, it'll give ya a chance to get some really cool nighttime pics of the parks with not as many people around...

Listen to all the wisdom on this page, unless you are a trust fund baby (or hubby is) there is just no way to justify spending $ 600 bucks for a rental car for 1 week. Yes I will admit having a car is nice but the transit times within the world are not that difficult to deal with. The buses at POP can be crowded compared to say CBR or CSR which is all I have to compare, but they are not bad...it depends on the times you are riding. You are going during a NON PEAK season and you will probably not be subjected to riding packed standing room only buses.. I would nix the rental car and if it was really bad with the buses on a particular day, call a cab with part of the money I saved on the rental car.:)

Save the money and don't rent a car. When going from resort to parks, you will still have to travel via the road ways (ie not monorail or boat) so either way, you will be in a car/bus. So save the money. The buses are not bad.

Oh my goodness I would NOT pay $600 for a car for a week. You will not save $600 worth of time by driving vs the buses. Just plan your time accordingly and it wont be an issue.

I really like having a car, but like the others, I would absolutely not pay $600 for a one week rental. If you get stuck somewhere and just can't stand to wait any longer you could always take a cab. You could do that quite a few times for less than $600.

I have never rented a car since Magical Express has been in existence. If you need to get somewhere quickly, you can always rent a cab if the buses are not cycling through fast enough.
I think the one time I would think about a car rental is if I were to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Since it is quite a ways from the other 3 parks, it might be worth hoping in a rental
