Nothing is happening. Ratings are down for all sports, save for football, as well as TV in general. Basketball is normally done and gone by now. You really think the Venn Diagram of NBA fans and a certain red hat wearing group is really enough to sink ratings?

People also need to give the NBA credit for having zero outbreaks in the bubble. Meanwhile the NFL is a few tests away from having to shut down, because they had no plan.

Yeah.. Chris Haynes.. Lol! At some point you need to just admit that you’re wrong. Sports are down because people don’t want politics mixed in. Baseball showed their support at the beginning of the season. They still have patches showing support. I have nothing backing up my argument? The ratings are down.. There’s been polls conducted. And I would appreciate you not saying I belong to a certain party..

The NBA season was in danger of being outright cancelled back in the summer because players were talking about no longer playing when the police protests first started happening. Politics have everything to do with the ratings decline.

Agreed.. Now all of a sudden Adam Silver is scaling back the social justice messages for next season. Was the goal accomplished or is he afraid that the league is going to lose a lot of fans and money.

Doesn't it strike you as odd. That in a world where people had little to no entertainment options, that they wouldn't tune into sports as an outlet? And that they wouldn't tune in - in huge numbers? Back in April, I couldn't wait for NBA, MLB, NFL to come back.

But they alienated a large percentage of their audience. Take someone like Billy (fictional character). Billy works construction and spends the entire day working with people he doesn't necessarily like. It's a paycheck. He feeds his family from it, keeps the roof over his head with it.

He comes home from a hard day, opens a beer, relaxes in his favorite chair, and tunes into a sports game to escape. Except now he is bombarded by commentators, sponsors, and players pushing an agenda Billy doesn't really believe in, nor does does he want to hear about. He just wants to watch sports. Billy isn't tuning in for long. And as ESPN, The NBA, MLB, NFL have all found out. There are a lot of Billy's.

When was this magical time when Billy Joejimbob was not advertised to? It’s an election year. I have to see a ton of ads with blue haired old coots rambling about everyone being a socialist, 8000 personal injury lawyers, and whatever lame joke Geico is spoofing today. Again, if you don’t want ads, maybe you and Billy Ray Proud Boy can look into this Netflix thing I speak of.

Also if Cooter Bob really wants politics out of sports, let’s do away with the giant flags at games, anthems, and war plane flyovers which have been revealed to be paid military advertisements, not some noble love of country from the NFL. That’s politics too, but it fits William The Everyman’s politics, so I guess that’s fine, even if it’s clearly paid BS to others.

But once more, all sports ratings are down, there’s proof, but the best that people who want to make this about something else can come up with is “naw. Your wrong!’ and hypotheticals. If you’re put off and not watching, fine. That’s absolutely your right, but at the same time you’re drawing conclusions based on your beliefs thatare just one of many symptoms of the lower ratings.

You clearly want there to be a connection somewhere where there isn’t a clear one, and you do because of your personal feelings about the nerve of NBA players wanting cops to stop disproportionately killing black people, and to vote.

Those really shouldn’t be controversial topics, and should be something we all encouraged, unless, I dunno, when we get home from our hard workin jerb at the factory John Cougar Mellamcamp sings about, that ‘Billy the Everyman’ would rather pretend he’s better than people of a different color / belief system, instead of just acknowledging a different set of beliefs than his own, and simply moving on.

And the Lakers just won. Boo.
