Navi River Journey - What is the story?

If they installed laser guns on all the boats and put "Navi" targets everywhere, I think they'd be onto something...

After reading everyone's responses, would you guys say that the ride is a short/semi-slow build-up gathering to meet the Shaman?

Sleestaks? Is said term perhaps Avatar related?

Edit: And yes! Your V.I.N.C.E.N.T. avatar rocks!

(Wonder why Disney never ventured into making something in the parks dedicated to The Black Hole:cautious:...possibly too dark?)

Land of the Lost, which started with a river raft adventure that ended up taking our intrepid heroes back to the time of dinosaurs. The Sleestaks were the alien/reptilian bad guys that showed up to cause trouble. Gotta love some '70s Sid and Marty Krofft craziness!

I haven't seen the movie Avatar (please no hate) and just want to know the concept of the Navi River ride.

Anyone have a quick paraphrase of the overall story of the ride from beginning point A to the end point B?

What you are supposedly doing/where are you going, your character aboard the boat, boat-ride build-up story, etc.?

Go!

A ride down a lazy ri--. Oh there's a singing alien! It's over already?

Actually - its relaxing - some of the visuals are pretty darn cool. Most, really
Very true. Na'vi isn't great, but it is much better than its reputation.

There are some neat visual tricks employed, parts of it actually do look pretty darn cool, and it echoes of classic gently floating through physical sets.

FoP is a great modern ride. But which other good rides did WDW build in the 2010's? Mermaid is lacking even more than Na'vi, Dwarf an even bigger waste of potential. Toy Story's two rides are underwhelming. The Star Wars and Sparrow attractions at DHS are barely worthy of that moniker. Even the ride makeovers have been underwhelming: TT, Soarin', Pirates. By these standards, Na'vi is a rousing success.

Wouldn't you agree that after standing in a line starting all the way back at the entrance of Pandora for 150 minutes that it would be nice to be able to relax for 5 and enjoy the stunning visuals before moving onto the next line?

Why, yes. I get the impression Na'vi's line is slowly becoming manageable. I could get fastpasses last trip, did a doable standby just before closing - unlike FoP whose line actually increases just before park close.

Soon it will be a new Gran Fiesta. A fine ride overlooked by the masses. As they are on their way to FoP or the planned undersea third Pandora ride.

I actually feel the opposite for Mermaid and Dwarf. To me, those felt like instant Disney classic rides and they are an absolute must on trips.

But, to each their own.

I agree, I still don't understand all the hate that Under the Sea gets. I'd much rather experience those two over Navi River. I guess I would put it like this, as someone who has been on all three attractions at least 2 times, if I went on a trip to WDW and didn't get to go on the Little Mermaid or the 7DMT, I would be super disappointed. If I was unable to get on Navi again, I'd be slightly let down, but not totally bummed out like I would for those other two.

I realize this is sort of turning into a rain-on-Navi-River's-parade thread. I don't mean to say it's necessarily a bad attraction - because it is definitely not. But it's lacking in a few departments and could have been way more substantial or memorable I guess had it not skimped in those areas. One of those areas being the story.

So we go to Disney about 1-2x/year, and each trip since Pandora's opening, we've had one FP for Navi (three total trips).

I don't think that I'd want to ride it more than this often.
It is too short...though it seems to me that the boats went slower than usual on this last trip - wonder if that's intentional?
There is a lot to see, and while I would like more space/animatronics, they cycle through the scenes through the screens. Not my preference but if they couldn't make it longer, they pack more in. But sometimes efficiency of storytelling could be more effective.

I do like the calm/relaxed feel. I like how the music adds in during the latter part of the ride.

It could definitely have been done better, and I don't know that I'll ever wait more than 15min for it, but I do enjoy it for what it is. And it is beautiful like nothing else on property (not necessarily more beautiful but different).

8/10 as a once-a-trip experience
