Navi River Journey - What is the story?

I agree, I still don't understand all the hate that Under the Sea gets. I'd much rather experience those two over Navi River. I guess I would put it like this, as someone who has been on all three attractions at least 2 times, if I went on a trip to WDW and didn't get to go on the Little Mermaid or the 7DMT, I would be super disappointed. If I was unable to get on Navi again, I'd be slightly let down, but not totally bummed out like I would for those other two.

I realize this is sort of turning into a rain-on-Navi-River's-parade thread. I don't mean to say it's necessarily a bad attraction - because it is definitely not. But it's lacking in a few departments and could have been way more substantial or memorable I guess had it not skimped in those areas. One of those areas being the story.
Under the sea is so much better than Navi River....

How about Its a Small World in Pandora? (without the mindworm music)
Different scenes with children from different countries singing the same song in their native languages to come together at the end singing the song in unison does not really compare to riding a boat at night down a lagoon to meet a singing Shaman.

Remember..
Half empty or half full. It is what it is and that goes for what each individual thinks. Love it for the air conditionong if for nothing else.

I haven't seen the movie Avatar (please no hate) and just want to know the concept of the Navi River ride.

Anyone have a quick paraphrase of the overall story of the ride from beginning point A to the end point B?

What you are supposedly doing/where are you going, your character aboard the boat, boat-ride build-up story, etc.?

Go!
You don’t really need to be familiar/or have watched Avatar in order to enjoy Pandora, FOP or Na’vi River IMO, but a little back story doesn’t hurt. Pandora is a fictional exoplanetary moon created by James Camera. The back story is humans go there to mine unobtanium.

Well, I was in the middle of explaining it all to you, but as I jumped back and forth, looking for the definition of http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2015/08/unobtanium-real-substance/
Unobtanium (which curiously sounds like something unobtainable), I lost what I had begun typing??! Anyway James Cameron came up with his fictional universe in which humans travel to Pandora to mine the stuff. The Na’vi are the native creatures of Pandora. So just enjoy the ride. You don’t have to watch the movie Avatar, but a little back story helps. The Na’vi animatronics in the ride are awesome and the music is pretty moving!

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! I tried to watch Avatar 3 times. Forget counting sheep!
It's Dances With Wolves (waaaaaay better and more believable) in Outer Space.

I think they had a couple of leftover boats from the Land they weren't using and they found an anamatronic under those boats.
So they put 'em all to use. The area is all immersive but this ride, for me, is a good place to nap (see previous thread on napping)

Gone!

Exactly....where ARE we going? There’s no story. Could’ve been great.
