A Hypothesis

We already have:

Disney's Hollywood Studios
Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's California Adventure

Every other non "Magic Kingdom" park has the "Disney's" in it's name. Will Epcot be next?

EPCOT, Epcot '93, and now just plain ol Epcot. There is no need for it to say "Disney's Epcot."

I have a hypothesis as to why Disney is infront of HS and Animal Kingdom. Walt Disney personally dreamed of the Magic Kingdom and wanted EPCOT to be part of his Floriday Project. Every park that opened afterwards has been created because of Walt Disney Inc. and were not part of Walt's original plans (though the movies was thought of to be a pavilion in EPCOT).

MGM and Disney Studios came together to allow a movie themed park without having to worry about copyright issues. The Disney-MGM Studios was born. Walt always had a special place for animals. Animal Kingdom is a realization of that special place.

You can also tell with the movies put out by the Disney Co. Any thing with "Walt Disney's" in front of it was produced while Walt was alive, or was a direct result of a planned movie during Walt's life. Everything after his death just says "Disney's"

So that's my hypothesis.

I don't really care that much, honestly, but I definitely don't see why it should be changed. I mean, at least the DHS name change made some sense.

Here is a novel idea.. why not just name it Epcot Center @ Disney World and be done with it.

Because the name Disney World is wrong. Walt died before the Magic Kingdom opened and Roy wanted to honor him in the name. So the name Walt Disney World was official even though most people call it "Disney World."

^ Naming it "Disney's Epcot" or something along those lines defeats the whole meaning of the park's name in the first place.

Its funny, because "Epcot" is a household name now. People who have never been to WDW have an idea of what Epcot is. And the word isn't even a real word - its an acronym!

Personally, I prefer "Epcot" over "EPCOT Center." Its more modern, simple, and capitalizes on the fame of the word itself. Also, "Center" is redundant, when you consider the full name would actually be "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow Center."

If you think about this whole thing in terms of the acronym, you get "Disney's Experimenral Prototype Community of Tomrrow," which actually kind of makes sense.

What's in a name? It's what's inside that matters.

The dumb thing about this is that Epcot isn't really Walt's idea for EPCOT(I think I am correct on that?) so saying it is "Disney's Epcot" may give some people the idea that Walt created the design we have today

Adding Disney in front doesn't make it Walt's. "Disney" isn't the name it used to mean earlier; it is now merely a brand.
