MYW with dining question

Here is the dilema: I plan to buy an AP later this year and use it to get a room discount next September. I know the discounts aren't 100% guaranteed to be offered, but the research I've done seems to show that discounts have been offered for the past several years in September. I'll take the gamble unless someone knows why I shouldn't. I'm also interested in getting the dining plan since I'm a big eater. Since the dining plan is an option with MYW packages, does that mean that I won't be able to do both, i.e. get the AP room discount and dining plan?

Absolutely correct. MYW dining is only offered as an addition to a room and ticket package. An AP is a stand alone item and the hotel is done as a room only deal so you cant add onto your package as it isnt one, did that make sense?? Never fear though, AP holder can sign up for the Disney Dining Experience program for $50.00 a year and get a card that takes 20% off all your sit down meals and beverages ( Alcoholic or otherwise!) Here is a link to a posting that explains pretty much everything. http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=49086&page=2&pp=15 Don Sullivan does a great job of breaking down the program!!! Belle

Once again, Miss Belle has beaten me to the response.

Brianna, with the information you've provided, I would also suggest using the
DDE approach. While the Dining option with the tickets is better with recent announcements of the inclusion of additional restaurants, it does require everyone in your party to be on the plan, and that is not always as efficient if you have children or picky eaters.

DDE as Belle said, includes alcohol and it can be used for a party up to 10, (or just you) over the course of the year (+) so is much more flexable. Heck, you can even use it at Victoria and Alberts.

Check Belle's information that was provided, and hopefully things become more clear rather than confusing.

What if you booked your room only for now, and then later this summer when the AP discounts come out for September you can call back and either ask them to re-book your stay as a package, or apply the AP rate to it.

I have a question.....with the dining plan for children, I know they need to order from the kids menu but do they still get any type of appetizer and dessert? Is the plan for children coded differently or could a child share with adults for all or some of the meals and then they be used by the adults a different time?

OK about the appetizer & dessert I am not sure on that but all of your meals, snacks and counter service "tickets" are put into a pool and are shared among all members of the group so yes the child could share with an adult and have an additional " ticket" for use later. They are not marked child or Adult. Belle

I'll help with that. (although WannabeBelle is 100% correct)

Children 3-9 must order from the child's menu where available. Some locations do offer children's appetizers or deserts. For locations that don't list separate child portions on the different courses the child orders from the full menu for these courses.

When you dine, you can always request separate checks for the "light eaters" regardless of age. You pay for their meals, and then use the plan on just for whom you want. Be sure to tell you wait staff at the START of the meal before you order to be billed correctly. Remember the included gratuity is calculated on what was ordered on the plan only. If you pay a separate check for select dinners, please be sure to tip accordingly.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Thank you both for your help! (Belle and JP) I can assume I should just request a seperate check for any "adult beverages" we order as well correct?

Yes. Any "adult beverage" or other items not covered by the plan (appetizer for 2, side items, etc.) will be put on a separate check.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:
