Mystic Manor at HKDL Video

As great as mystic manor is its kinda sad that we want clones of great original rides in other parks kinda says a lot about our attractions at our parks. I think we should be hoping for great originals that other people are going to ride and say "well when are we getting that?"

I could totally see that at Imagination Pavillion at Epcot. Thanks for posting.

Some of the effects going into Imagination ride? Yes.

Actual ride/story/etc? Nope it doesn't make sense from a ride placement point of view

But Hong Kong has the exclusive on that ride for I believe 5 years from opening. One negative seemed to be the amount of very DirectX-y particles in the ride like someone who was new to DirectX created a particle system and didn't seem to be quite fitting.

Nothing says they can't modify the basic layout like they did in bringing Indiana Jones to DAK in the form of Countdown to Extinction. Swap out the curious monkey with an imaginative purple dragon, switch the exotic ephemera and enchanted artifacts with the stuff of Figment's imagination. I'd be pretty pleased with that.

Or it would be easier to observe politeness and wait 5 years for the exclusive to end then take the concept on the road ... you do not want to displease Hong Kong's government.

The trackless ride system does not even have to be as limited to what we see here. The only true test of the system we have seen are in the spinning rooms here and for Honey Hunt where 3 vehicles or so follow a path together in a room.

That just scratches the surface with the potential here.

A US version would not even need the same layout. Dump the theme all together. Just innovate.

Was Sorin' the last true innovative Disney ride?

I do not count Toy Story, since it is the video game that is innovative. The ride is just a long extended S-track.

But the basic concept is just the trackless vehicles... which already exist in several places.

Which non currently exist in Disney US parks...standalone that is.

If you replaced the Monkey for Figment, etc. and dropped it into Imagination which is mute because LPS requires a flat floor anyway ... you don't think the Hong Kong government is going to be a bit suspicious when they see a similar effect at a similar point in a ride - in a competing park? Hong Kong has the exclusive.

What exactly is the benefit/wow factor of a trackless ride system? Won't the vehicles still follow a certain path? Why does it matter if they are on a track or not when following that path? Just curious why everyone seems to be so in favor of the system.

Because the path can change and overlap itself. In Pooh's Hunny Hunt the three vehicles do not stay right behind each other. They split up and go to different parts of the show room.

I could see Mystic Manor (and the whole of Mystic Point, for that matter) fitting in DisneySea, in the expansion pad next to Lost River Delta (once the exclusivity clause is up). I'm looking forward to seeing video of the rest of Mystic Point (the gardens etc.).

Wow, this is incredible! I hope to go on this someday!
All the technology is used in this ride, AAs, screens, and trackless ride systems. Sigh, if only we had all that in WDW.
No doubt, this will come to the states some time in the future.
Oh, and why do Henry Mystic and Albert remind me of Dreamfinder and Figment?...

I have an actual question -- this appears to be (well, actually, is) in English. I thought the rides overseas where in the native languages, at least the ridethroughs I've seen from Tokyo were. How does that work? Are some rides in English and some not?

Most of the attractions in Tokyo are in Japanese (from memory). However in Hong Kong and Paris they are either in the native languages or some combination of the native language and English. For example the interactive Stitch show in Hong Kong / Paris has shows in Chinese/French and English scheduled at different times of the day. The Jungle Cruise in Hong Kong has three different queues for English, Cantonese and Mandarin. The library pre-show in Paris's Tower of Terror can be either French or English (the ride operator can select it based on what he observes of the waiting crowd).

Edit- Also, the Golden Mickeys show at HKDL has the dialogue in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin - I'm not sure) and the songs sung in English. There are subtitles to the side of the stage that translate into the other language.

I think Disney dark rides really thrive when they have original characters ie. Mystic Manor, Figment(the original ride), Maelstrom(even though they isn't a major character it still isn't Disney themed). I love Disney characters as much as the next guy but I like to see some originality like this. That monkey looked totally lovable unlike a character like Stitch(and his ride). That's a good example where they took a cool ride and put a Disney skin over it. And the result was a weak ride. A ride like Mystic Manor is a risk because it's an unknown character but this one really succeeded. So I'd like to see more dark rides with original characters in WDW.

I have watched the videos a few times. Besides the great effects (I love the lava flowing from the tiki's mouth) and careful blending of sets, AA's and screens, one thing that stood out to me was the music. I love the headless knights little ditty and the singing tiki's. I get a Grim Grinning Ghost vibe, which is one of my favorites.

I am looking forward to getting the full clear audio track! Anyone know where it might be available if it is released? I know the ride isn't even open yet, so I may be jumping the gun a little.

Great job Hong Kong!

Nice but mind not blown. Judging from the video (never the same as in peson), the level of detail is on the level of Under the Sea/little Mermaid. While I like that ride, it has been criticized for being a glorified C ticket. Mistic Manor is no Haunted Mansion or Pirates. It's got the awesome trackless system and that great final scene with the statue-samurai-monkey wizard but agian, it's mostly screens.I thought screens were the devil 'round these parts....and yes, the story is super duper thin.

I also like that it's in english. Whenever I make it over to Tokyo DL, I'm going to have a hard time enjoying myself as much as I'd like because of all the japanese speaking AA's/shows. Not my cup of tea.
