I have a 16 month old granddaughter that has yet to utter a single word. In fact, she just barely started walking over the last three weeks. They have a very electronics based household, so it shouldn't be surprising that she can operate an Ipad to stream cartoons from Net Flicks. With no assistance whatsoever, she finds the Net Flicks App. pushes it scrolls through to find the specific cartoon she wants, chooses it and sits there and watches the whole movie, without moving a muscle. She has a big stuffed animal that she leans against, holding the Ipad on her lap and watches it. She will look up from time to time to see if the house is on fire, but, when all is clear, she returns her attention to the screen. I don't know whether to be impressed or concerned.Don't kid yourself. Kids love iPads as much as crayons. Maybe even moreso.
Just spent 8 hours at Sick Kids with my 6' 4" 16-year old, and every waiting room was packed with 3-7 year olds playing with iPads, iPhones and Samsung Galaxies. One little guy even walked up to me and eyeballing my iPad, said, "Hey, it's my turn now".
All the while, the crayons and colouring books remained largely ignored.
