Yes I get that. But at one point in the not so distant future the Key card will go the way of the Dodo....extinct.
No, as of right now it will remain an option. It is not the default but it will still be available on request.

I'm actually hoping that some day they decide to sell jewelry. I'd love to buy a nice Mickey Watch that doubles as a magicband. :p

I've said it a few times, but I am curious to see what sort of modifications people will create to embed the MagicBand into other items.

Coming soon...

The D chip. It will be able to be implanted right behind your right ear. It will have all the great features of MM+ and it'll give you up to the moment wait times for all your rides you're in line for.

Don't delay, sign up today!!!!

Also coming will be MyMagic Implant Plus. It builds upon the D Chip to create the next generation of NextGen theme park technology: a revolutionary microchip that will be imbedded in the brains of children of all children right after birth. When planning a WDW vacation, guests will be able to make ADR and FP+ reservations simply by thinking about their ride or dining time. The implant then transmit the brain wave activity to a central computers on Disney property which then log the reservation times.

Users will also get attraction wait times, parades, fireworks, and other entertainment times streamed downloaded directly into their short term memory for easy access. They'll also be able to telekinetically open their resort rooms and speed through the entrance turnstiles.

One feature Disney tends to play down is that the chip is also programmed to self destruct if the user comes within 100 yards of a Universal, Sea World, or Busch Gardens theme park, thereby ensuring a steady stream of WDW guests for centuries to come.

Coming in 2040! You heard it here first folks!

Hence the "at one point" comment. And once again key cards will go bye bye once MagicBand is totally rolled out and working without any (most) issues. Until then a key card will be possible but they will be gone....at one point.
If Disney intends to completely do away with the Key to the World card then Bob Iger publicly lied to a US Senator. The cards are not going away even when testing is over and the MagicBand system is entirely and completely in place.

This "at one point" you keep going on about is purely hypothetical. It is not planned at the present time even when all of the issues with the MagicBands are fixed.

Lying to a US Senator should get you an automatic reservation for a room without a view, Unfortunately these days it just requires a generous 'contribution' to the said Senator's re-election campagin and as many of the Senators pals as the Senator so designates. Being UNABLE to provide said contribution(s) lands one in the hooscow.

Life is full of hypotheticals. But I believe that once the bands get to the point where they are running smoothly that the option of getting a key card will not exist. Now I do think they will still keep the cards just in case of a system failure with the bands or some other problem but Disney did not invest the amount of money on it just to offer an alternative to guests staying on property. Iger wants everyone wearing a MagicBand and a smile :). This will be especially true after the Legacy Fastpass goes away as well. Again....purely hypothetical.

What you believe is counter to what Disney has publicly stated, including in a public letter to a US Senator. Keeping The Key to the World cards is Disney's out on accusations of over tracking people.

Once MyMagic+ is fully rolled out, will I be able to go up to the ticket booth and purchase a ticket with cash and get a magic band without giving them any personally information? If so then this would satisfy Iger's statement that people could "opt-out of MyMagic+", at least from a privacy standpoint.

You'd still be actively tracked by that MagicBand and others have demonstrated that a strong profile can still be built without your input.

But in the response to Congress's questions it says:

"My Magic+ is a completely optional program

Guests can enjoy admission to the park without having to register or provide any personal information".

My scenario will satisfy this.

Except the personal information regarding movement.

Yeah, but he can still safely claim that he did not lie to Congress unless someone really wants to press him on it. Bottom line is that 99.9999% of Disney guests just aren't going to care and won't look to opt-out.
Just giving away MagicBands to everybody hurts the ability to make them a perk that entices staying on property and removes the possibility of selling them to those staying off site or visiting for the day.

They can still offer the enticement and up sell by just not allowing specific bands to use certain services. They could give guests a band that just works as a hotel key and park ticket and nothing else. Not trying to argue what they WILL do since I don't know, just offering up possibilities as to what they might do.

Of course companies would never lie and say things that they may not mean. Hey if they keep offering the KttW then great. I will keep using it. Not because I care if Big Broth...I mean Disney knows where I am but like I originally stated, I don't want to wear the bands. But I still feel that if they continue to offer the Kttw it won't be stated at check-in or stated on their website. If you know and ask they will give, if not MagicBand it is. BUT!!! I still think the cards will eventually be gone.

You have it wrong it's designed to terminate the host in order to prevent revenue accruing to Disney competitors, If Disney cant have your money no one else can either...
