My wife and I bought a 10 day no expiration date hopper a few years back, do i need to transfer tickets to a magic band or will i still be able to use "normal" fastpass on our upcoming February trip? I am trying to avoid FP+ at all costs. We have no idea what days we are even going to the parks and planning that far ahead takes all the fun out of it
Might be too soon to say. FastPass is going away (already gone at Disney's Animal Kingdom) and you will, at the very least, need to transfer your tickets to an RFID card.

We'll be there right at the end of the month. I know I'm in the minority here but I am at least curious to try the new system. I fully expect that it may not be a smooth experience, and I may not end up liking it, but after all the rumors and whatnot I'm looking forward to just seeing it for myself. I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Problem #1 (for me) still exists - I H.A.T.E. wearing anything on my wrists.

I'm with you 100%. Can't stand a watch or anything on my wrist so I will be keeping that Magic badboy in my pocket or strapped to a belt buckle. Should be I'm trying to light Mickey up with my band strapped to my waist!!

Disney is going to have a BIG problem if on site folks during this "test" go ape over fact that the offsite folks have access to more FP than they do and thus have a perk over on site guests to access more rides during the test. If Disney were smart they would coincide the change to all FP+ on site with removal of legacy from parks. This way an off site guest will not have access tomore FP per day and at multiple parks whereas the on site guests have access to three total at one park per day. I know I am going to give them a piece of my mind when I get there at the end of the month this is now a perk to stay off site or in a Downtown Disney hotel at the very least.

Again, you do not need to have or use a MagicBand. You can still request a Key to the World card.

If you go to a regular ticket counter at the parks (as opposed to something at the resort) I'm guessing it may be possible.

If not possible, there's always cancelling the room with the mouse and get an upgrade of amenities at a fraction of the cost...

I am hoping after things settle down and become routine with almost no issues Disney will allow multiple options. NFC/RFID phones with the right app could even act as your ticket/doorkey/creditcard, or allowing lanyards or other things instead of a band.

I'm actually hoping that some day they decide to sell jewelry. I'd love to buy a nice Mickey Watch that doubles as a magicband. :p

Yes I get that. But at one point in the not so distant future the Key card will go the way of the Dodo....extinct.

Your opinion, or you have some reason to believe this?

There are segments of WDW visitors where colored bracelets are going to go over about as well as a lead balloon.

What? Are you serious? There were some who thought legacy FP would remain forever?

Plans always were to eliminate legacy FP. Corporate never had any intention of keeping it.
I recall quite a few posts over the past 18 months mistakenly suggesting that FP- would not go away. Especially early on.

The keycard will always exist for the guest that cannot or will not use a magicband. What many people don't understand is that although you can get a KTTW card at one of the MB only resorts, it does not work like an old KTTW card. The magnetic strip on the back doesn't work and it's functionality works just like a MagicBand. Inesssence it is and will always be a MB that fits on your pocket and not around your wrist.

If the band doesn't go over well they'll just embed the tech into another form factor. I think it's inevitable over time.

Coming soon...

The D chip. It will be able to be implanted right behind your right ear. It will have all the great features of MM+ and it'll give you up to the moment wait times for all your rides you're in line for.

Don't delay, sign up today!!!! :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:

Which, as I've suggested previously, I think they should do. A band is a one-size-fits-all approach, a concept which often translates more as one-size-fits-nobody.

Some may like the band, while others prefer a card, or lanyards, or something else.

The form factor is not arbitrary and there are physical use and constraints to keep in mind. So they can't just do 'anything'. The hand is the best location due to the articulation and height... But some people obviously have issue with it.

I'm wondering if a lanyard clip is the next evolution.
