Myhappyplace's Magical 30th Birthday Trip (October 19-25, 2008)

Well, here goes!

Background Info
I usually get to go to WDW every year, year-and-a-half. Having just gone in January, I didn't really plan on getting to go again this year. Until I realized that-holy crap-I'll be turning 30 in October! Little get togethers with family and friends are nice for your birthday, but not your 30th, plus I didn't know how I'd do with that big milestone, so I realized I had to be in my happy place for the big day.

I originally planned on going solo, but my co-worker, who, bless her heart, has had to put up with me talking non-stop before and after my last 6 trips to WDW, asked if she could come too. She had never been to WDW, and wants to bring her family someday.

So on this trip it was just me, Amber and my friend Danielle.

It was going to be interesting because although Danielle and I get along well, we are complete opposites in almost every way, so I was anxious about seeing how she liked this place I talk non-stop about!

Sunday, October 19th (Arrival/ Resort Hopping/ DTD)
Danielle arrived at my house the evening before after working parking at that day's Penn State game. We then left my house at 2 am for the 3 hour drive to Pittsburgh airport. Danielle had never flown before, either, but everything went fairly smoothly and we were on our way to Cincinnati, then Orlando.
It took very little time, maybe 10 minutes to get loaded onto the DME bus and headed to our resort for the week, Pop Century.

Some pics of POP:

We checked in, got a First Visit button for Danielle, and our room was ready! After dropping our stuff off in the room, we headed down to the food court for a small lunch. I had the Caesar Chicken Salad which I love!
Then, it was off to some of the other resorts to look around. Danielle was really excited to see the other resorts, and I had never actually looked around some of them myself.
We headed to MK to pick up our tickets, then got on the resort monorail to visit the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, and Polynesian. How beautiful they were! My favorite from those three is the Poly. Here are some pics:

Contemp-I bought a really cute purse here that I used for the rest of the week, too.
IMG_1464.jpg

GF-someone was getting married that day and we watched the bride getting pics taken on the staircase. My sister also got engaged here last spring, so I bought her a beautiful GF glass ball ornament for Christmas ( I got a lot of Christmas shopping done this week)

I pointed out the hidden Mickey to Danielle, which really piqued her interest. Later that night she bought the Hidden Mickey book and for the rest of the week we looked for them.

Next, since we had plenty of time before our evening ressie at Whispering Canyon Cafe/WL, we hopped on the Epcot monorail, so Danielle could see that. She really liked the monorail and I just love hearing "Por favor..."-it meant I was really there!!

Then we headed back to MK via ferry and hopped on the launch to WL. I had never been there and was I floored. I had seen pictures, but it was unbelievable! Someday I will stay here. Some pics:

On the ferry to MK:

We watched from outside the WCC to see all of the fun things I had heard about it. We heard them call for ketchup, ride the ponies, etc and it looked really fun. When it came time for our ADR, however, we were seated out on the porch-away from all of the action. I was a little disappointed, but the meal was really good. I had heard about the skillets, and I like all of the meats, but I'm weird in that I don't like potatoes or corn, so we both opted for the Western Chicken Pasta. It was absolutely delicious, and I fully intend on checking the recipe thread to see if its there-yum!

IMG_1518.jpg

Although we probably shoud have headed to bed, we decided to hit DTD, since we wouldn't be able to any other time that week.
I was surprised to see that the scrapbook store was closed, but I bought my baby nephew a toy, and myself some bracelets. I was also able to find my little brother a dinosaur Operation type game at the T-Rex store! The perfect Christmas gift for him!
Then it was time to head back to POP for the night.

Side note: as we waited for the ferry to the MK earlier that evening, we were relieved to see MANY adults dressed up for that evening's MNSSHP, which we would be going to on Tuesday.

Monday, October 20th (DHS, MK)
We, well, I decided that we needed to be at DHS for opening/ rope drop to ride, of course, Toy Story Midway Mania. We were so early, our bus driver asked if we had an breakfast ADR. We told him no, we just wanted to be sure to get on TSMM early! There was no one lining up yet, so we just sat on the planters until we noticed that people were starting to show up, and then got our spot in line.
At rope drop, we watched the little ditty with Bucky Greenhorn and Director Puey. I loooove Bucky!

IMG_1535.jpg

We then followed the CM to TSMM. Not to complain, but since we were one of the first there, the line moved so fast, I couldn't take all of the queue in and get pics! Only a Disney nerd like me would be sad about that! Anyway, the ride...loved it! It was so fun. Danielle kicked my butt (thought I later beat her on Buzz)-beginner's luck. We never had a rematch there, though, because when we came out the lines of people getting fastpasses were so long, you couldn't walk past! The area is themed so well, I can't wait to see what else will go here in the future!!

IMG_1550.jpg

We then headed to ToT, which was one of Danielle's faves this trip, and RnRC.

We then headed over to Indy, to see the show and so that I could pull the rope on the well like I read about here. The pictures are on Danielle's camera, so I will post them later, but it was funny! Danielle didn't guess the catch to the show, so it was fun to watch her watch it!

I found the key at Muppet Vision 3D:

Cars Meet & Greet:

We then had an ADR at 50s Prime Time Cafe where I had my favorite pot roast! Then we found a spot for Block Party Bash, which I had not yet seen. It was cute!

Those performers have got to be exhausted at the end!

We did Great Movie Ride, saw Beauty and the Beast, and did ToT one more time, then headed up to Fantasmic. I haven't seen it in a couple of visits and I had forgotten how much I liked it:

IMG_1631.jpg

After Fantasmic, we went to MK. I hadn't originally planned on going to any other park that night, but I decided that Danielle should see Haunted Mansion before the MNSSHP, plus I had never ridden Splash Mountain before and I thought it would be a good idea to ride it at the end of the day in case I got wet. So that's what we did.

Tuesday, October 21st (DAK and MNSSHP)
We arrived at DAK for opening and rope drop this morning as well (it became a theme this week-for some reason, we were always ready early) We headed to Expedition Everest, got in line, only to discover that it was down. We were literally 2nd in line, but only because when people found out it was down, they fastpassed it and left. Well, we were too stubborn and waited in line. They were shutting down and restarting it. Finally after some test runs, we were on the first train that morning. Love this ride, and so did Danielle.

We went to see Nemo, which was wonderful as always. I wanted to try out my new camera without the flash (a photographer I am not), and though blurry, I thought this one turned out like a painting:

on the way to Africa, we saw DeVine:

We rode Kilimanjaro Safaris and then ate at Pizzafari. I love the sandwich there. (can you tell I love the food at WDW?)

We then headed to my absolute favorite attraction in WDW-Festival of the Lion King. Love me some tumble-monkeys!!

After the show, we left DAK to go back to POP and change into our Halloween costumes for MNSSHP that night-my first! I was also meeting Coree, from these forums that night. We found this when we entered our room:

Here we are in our costumes in Cosmic Rays where we met Coree-will post that pic later if its okay with Coree!!

The fall decorations around MK were beautiful! Pre-trip, I didn't know how I'd feel, this being the first time the Main Street didn't look like it typically did. It was great. Then, as soon as the party started and the lighting changed, it was so cool. We had a great time-well worth the money (in fact well worth it twice as you'll read later) I also liked that the next day, which was our full MK day, it was back to normal!
IMG_1740.jpg

We decided to make it the party activities the priority, though we did ride Haunted Mansion again...hey it was the star tonight! We knew we'd be there all the next day, so we wanted pics with characters and to watch the parade and fireworks.

We walked into Adventureland first, and the line was short for these characters, so we hopped on line.

IMG_1742.jpg

Baloo was hilarious! He was cracking us up, hence the first picture!

From the Boo to You Parade (which I might point out has the catchiest darn song ever. I couldn't stop singing it to myself the rest of the week!)

We were definitely tired, but had a great time. We thought the party was well worth the money, and I am seriously considering taking my brother at this time next year!

Wednesday, October 22 (MK)
We got to MK before opening yet again. I was glad because I had never seen the Park opening here either.

IMG_1821.jpg

We had no particular goal in mind, so we just wandered through Liberty Square to Frontierland and saw Frontierland Donald-yay!

IMG_1832.jpg

We rode Big Thunder Mt and then headed over to Adventureland to see the Captain Jack Tutorial. I had shown Danielle pics from my last trip of this and she wanted to see it for herself. We got another good one!! One little boy was poking Mack with the sword a little south of his belly and Mack said "I don't want to be the governor's daughter!" Funny stuff!

IMG_1842.jpg

We then went to Fantasyland and I met the Fairy Godmother

IMG_1859.jpg

We got in line for the teacups (I made Danielle ride all of the classics-she said once was enough for her). While waiting, Alice and the Mad Hatter came out and hopped in with some lucky families.
